Expert Solution
Step 1: INTRODUCTION

The process by which energy in sunlight is converted to chemical energy is called photosynthesis. It takes place in chloroplasts in the plants. Chloroplasts is surrounded by a double layered membrane and the fluid filled space in the chloroplasts is called stroma. Elaborate system of interconnected sacs are called thylakoids and the photopigment (chlorophyll) is present in thylakoids. It occurs in two stages-

A) Light reactions- The light reactions use light energy to excite certain chlorophylls' electrons, which then participate in the electron transport chain to produce ATP and NADPH.

B) calvin cycle- The dark reactions, on the other hand, use that ATP and NADPH to fix carbon from CO2 into organic molecules.

The arrangement of light-absorbing pigment molecules in antenna complexes, also known as light-harvesting complexes in the thylakoid membrane is related to the light reactions. Chlorophylls which absorb the highest energy are located towards the periphery while with lowest energy are located towards the reaction center.
