Study of plant population frequency by quadrant sampling ---
Quadrant method -- Frequency --Frequency is defined as degree of uniformity of the occurrence of individual of a species with in a plant
community .
Frequency of plant species for large population or extensive habitats to calculate is very difficult , but the calculation of sample frequency by Quadrant method are being used nowadays .
Frequency is affected by size and shape of the quadrant used .
Quadrant Method -- Quadrant --it is a sample plot of a specific size used for study of population or a community .
Uses of quadrant methods --These are used for different specific, disciplines eg. vegetation assessment with plant biomass , plant density, plant frequency .
Precautions during choosing the quadrant and calculate the frequency --Frequency is highly affected by shape and size of quadrant used .
Area chosen must not be very big so that there is no difficulty to calculate the frequency easily and adequately and area should not be very small which produce difficulties in sampled adequately .
Ecology is sometimes defined as a measure of the distribution and abundance of organisms .
Material required for quadrant sampling - An adequate quadrant sampling of an organism and quantitative information about small eg, mini breast and gasses ,lichen mosses and other small plant .
Material -- 4.5 meter string, measuring tape ,, four pegs , paper sign with the group member.
Determination of plant population frequency by use of quadrant method --- Importance -
-This method is relatively simple and objective .Frequency indicators the number of times a plant species is present in a given number of sample quadrant .
Measurement of plant population frequency by using quadrant method -- B y the calculation of presence of a species in random sample areas which are distributed as widely as through out area of study .
Formula for calculation of percentage of frequency by quadrant method -- Percentage ( % ) frequency =number of sampling units in which the species occurs / Total number of sampling units employed for the study.
