Describe in detail each of the following proteins and their role in the cellular processes that they are involved. How does the structure of each relate to their specific function? i) Ras ii) immunoglobulins iii) CDKS
i. Ras Protein:
Describe: Ras is a family of related proteins that are expressed in all animal cell lineages and organs. All Ras protein family members belong to a class of protein called small GTPase and are involved in delivering signals within cells. Ras is the prototype member of the Ras superior family of proteins, which are all related in three-dimensional patterns and regulate diverse cell behaviours.
Role: RAS proteins are important for normal development. Active RAS drives the growth and migration of cells.
Function: Ras proteins function as molecular switches that cycle between an inactive, GDP-bound and an active, GTP-bound state to operate cell increase, differentiation, migration, and apoptosis.
