Apparatus: [1] mini mechatronics PLC Trainer [2] SIMATIC S7-300 PLC [3] PC with Step 7 software [4] Connection wires [5] Toggle switch (or selector switch) [6] Pneumatic pump and connection pipes Experimental Procedure: You are requested to use SIMATIC S7-300 PLC to control the following operations on the mini-mechatronics kit. Make all required connections between PLC I/O ports and the mini- mechatronics kit I/O terminal rail. Write a Step 7 program to control the following operations: 1. Place two parts in the feeding magazine (metallic and nonmetallic). 2. Press a Toggle start/stop (ON/OFF) switch to initiate the system. System works only if Toggle is ON. 3. The ejector plate of the supply unit should push one part onto the conveyor. 4. The conveyor turns on and transfers the part past the sensor unit, where it is checked for type, to the stopper unit. 5. If the part is metallic, the stopper gate will open, allows piece to pass through then will close. The metallic piece will keep moving on the conveyor until it drops into the container at the end of the line, then the conveyor stops. 6. If the part is plastic, when it reaches the stopper, the conveyor stops, the z-axis cylinder goes down, the suction pad picks the part up, and then the z-axis retracts. The x-axis cylinder extends to drop the part onto the workpiece 3-position holding platform, while the cylinder is in the upper position (without lowering the z-axis). The x-axis retracts to initial position. 7. The process repeats. 8. Use the counters to count the different types of workpieces processed through the system.
