SOSC 210 Learning Guide Introduction Unit 1 Introduction to this class Each week the class will have a learning guide to assist in identifying the core concepts that are required to succeed in this class. We will accomplish this with learning guides like this one. What you will find in each learning guide is a description of the material you will be reading with corresponding questions. Each week there will be a learning guide that you will need to fill out. The learning guides have questions that are important to the material. As a student in this class, it is your responsibility to understand the material being presented. These questions help you pinpoint that. Additionally, the questions below correspond significantly to the questions that will be asked on the quizzes. One of the keys to this class is understanding how to fill out a learning guide. My suggestion is to read the questions in each section first, then read the material, and as you're reading the material, write down a note about the question or specific information that you're trying to gather. It has been my experience that what does NOT work is writing down a page number and hoping that you can reference back to that page number during an examination. Because the tests are timed, it is almost impossible to do that consistently with good results. Please note that there may be questions on a quiz or the final that are not on question lists. All reading material can and will be on quizzes and exams. Announcements In the next 17 weeks, we are going to be exploring the features of different office suites, data visualization products and then explore data, its journey into information, and ultimately into actionable knowledge with all of its inherent bias. If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to send me an email. I will try to respond within 24 hours. I am looking forward to getting to know each of you. Each week there is a summary of what we will be accomplishing for the week. These emails and these notices inform you of what you will need to complete by the week. For this first week of class, we want to make sure you are set up for success over the remainder of the semester. To that end, in this lesson, you will find instructions about how to: Expectations for this week Copyright 2023 Matthew Herman All rights reserved Page 1 of 5
