What method does the FBI use to determine the profile of the offender in a sex crime The methodology employed by the FBI in profiling violent offenders through the ViCAP program involves information collected from police departments, interviews with convicted offenders, and research results published by social scientists. Police departments are asked to complete the ViCAP form on offenders, which are then computerized at Quantico. The rape offender profile is based on the theory that an individual displays unique characteristics in personality, crime scene behavior, and method of operation. 3. What is the importance of the profile in helping solve the crime? Investigators may find that a profile of the offender will assist in reducing or narrowing the range of potential suspects through identification of social and demographic characteristics. Part II: Burglary
1. What are the common methods in which burglars gain entry into a residence or building? Prying, Picking, Pulling, Smash and Crash, Cutting glass, Slipping lock or "loiding", Brute force, Removing door panel, Entry through windows, Entry through doors, Entry through basement windows and skylights, Entry through walls, Entry through floors, Safe Cracking, and Second-story job. 2. Describe the primary characteristics of suspect(s) in burglary cases. Other than juvenile burglars, many burglars are highly noble and will move from one jurisdiction to another, making communication and information sharing with other jurisdictions important. The average burglar is generally non-violent, unemployed or retired and repeat offenders. They work alone, live not too far away and may just be doin it for the thrill. They also select their targets ahead of time, including visiting their victims. 3. How are burglaries and sex crimes related? Burglaries and Sex Crimes are related in several ways: 1.
