Social Issue • Briefly introduce the social issue that you selected in Milestone One. The Social issue I decided to select in milestone one was crime and violence. Cultural Beliefs and Biases On this slide, identify and explain at least two examples of the cultural beliefs and biases related to your chosen social issue. (Some examples of cultural beliefs and biases include the economic system (such as capitalism), social theory (such as individualism), and religious beliefs.) • One cultural belief is that African Americans men had it worse and still do now. • Another cultural belief is that some police target out African Americans. For each example above, be sure to indicate whether the relationship between each example and the central issue is positive, negative, or strained. 3

Social Roles On this slide, identify and explain at least two examples of the social roles played by the main individuals or groups in the social issue (For example, an individual may be a parent, a teacher, a provider, a criminal, a victim, or a dependent.) • Police play a big role in the social issue. • I also believe victim plays a big role in this as well. I say victim because often the time when a policemen is involved in something the person they hurt usually is the victim. Social Inequalities On this slide, identify and explain at least two examples of the social inequalities related to the social issue (Some examples of social inequalities include race, social class, and English language ability). • I believe the young men are more target out. • Not only do I believe young men are target out I believe young black men are always the first to be checked. Existing Social Conditions On this slide, identify at least two examples of the existing social conditions that the social issue is challenging or impacting. Some examples include the media, crime rates, and unemployment. • "Based on information from more than two million 911 calls in two US cities, he concluded that white officers dispatched to Black neighborhoods fired their guns five times as often as Black officers dispatched for similar calls to the same neighborhoods." "Although half of the people shot and killed by police are White, Black Americans are shot at a disproportionate rate. They account for less than 13 percent of the U.S. population, but are killed by police at more than twice the rate of White Americans. Hispanic Americans are also killed by police at a disproportionate rate". .
