EDC370 ASSIGNMENT 1 CRITICAL REFLECTION ASSIGNMENT DETAILS STUDY PERIOD 1, 2023 Critical Reflection: 25% of the overall mark of the unit. Due: Week 5, Sunday 2 April 2023 by 11.59 pm WST Word Count: 1000 words (+/– 10%). This Word Count does NOT include the Reference List Please provide an Acknowledgement of Country and a Warning prior to the commencement of your Critical Reflection. Please note, these are NOT included in the word count. TASK Critically reflect on two of the topics covered in Weeks 1 - 3: ¡) Introduction, Connection to Country, Indigenous Protocols i) Culture, Identity and Stereotypes ¡) Indigenous Australian Histories and Policies. Critically analyse your own cultural positioning, heritage, prior knowledge, understandings and attitudes prior to commencing the unit against the unit materials , and what this new learning will mean for you as a future teacher and how it will influence your future classroom practice. In your reflection, consider your own cultural imperatives, implicit biases, life experiences and the power relationships that exist within society. In responding to this material, what aspect of your opinions, attitudes or beliefs may have changed as a result of learning from the unit in relation to your two selected topics? Is some of the material new, confronting or well-known to you? Explain why this is so. Articulate how the unit material has helped you develop new understandings in a more holistic manner, and how/why it is relevant to your future teaching. The assessment is NOT a summary of facts and information. The assessment is designed so that as you reflect on the unit learnings, you develop your self-awareness while assessing your own cultural beliefs, as well as gain an understanding of Australia’s Indigenous populations and the historical and contemporary impacts on Indigenous cultures. Structure: This reflection may be written in the first person. The reflection is to be written as an academic essay, so it should have an Introduction, body paragraphs and a Conclusion. (Do NOT use headings) A minimum of 5 quality references is required. The Textbook must be included as one of the scholarly references . As well as the Textbook, refer to Unit Readings, Viewings and lectures as well as other scholarly references. These must be cited within the body (in-text) of the Reflection and in the Reference List on a new page at the end of your Reflection. References (in-text and Reference List) must adhere to the 7th APA Edition style of referencing.
