Stacy Douglas September 17, 2023 Wk3 Discussion1 If you were the researcher for the study in question: Would you see any issue with how the social worker presented your study to the client? Explain why or why not. Be sure to address ethical and cultural considerations and apply the NASW Code of Ethics in your post. As a researcher, I would definitely see an issue to how the study was prevented to the client. It was presented to the client in a way that seemed deceptive on the worker’s part. The client was clearly unwilling to participate and uncomfortable speaking about it. The social worker was not very receptive to her client’s feelings and downplayed them as if her concerns weren’t valid and didn’t matter. The social workers ethical responsibility to the client is to promote the overall wellbeing of the client, provide professional services to the client, make sure they are informed about the services rendered and their rights to accepting or not accepting theses services. The social worker should be competent in the services they provide based on their knowledge and culturally competent, having some knowledge of the client they are representing. They should keep things confidential and not have any inappropriate relationship with the clients, be respectful and cause no harm to their clients (NASW). I would be concerned that the integrity of my study would be jeopardized by this worker’s action and in the manner that she persuaded unwilling clients to participate. Also, as a social worker, this study could potentially do more harm than good to the client and in my opinion the worker does not seem to care about the effects of that happening.
