How might social work research inform dialogue on efforts to reform the immigration system? Social work research can aid reform of the immigration system by providing valuable insight. Social workers can advocate for immigrants and educate policymakers to implement more effective policies. According to Jansson (2020), there is a lot of confusion regarding the eligibility of immigrants for specific programs due to the interaction of immigration and welfare laws, differences in eligibility criteria for various state and federal programs and lack of training on the rules by agency personnel which leads to many eligible immigrants being denied services. As social workers, we can ensure we are knowledgeable of the laws and policy requirements to ensure immigrants are able to access benefits they may be entitled to. Jansson (2020) also states that immigrants often do not assert their rights for fear of deportation and are often abused by many employers who underpay them and are victimized because perpetrators realize that law enforcement and government officials will not defend them or enforce their rights. Social workers can advocate for social justice and work with politicians to implement policies that require equal treatment.   Jansson, B. S.
