z Hidden Figures – Katherine Johnson A mathematician who works at the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia as one of the only three Afro-American women within the employment. This movie emphasizes the type of discrimination and segregation one dealt with during the 1950s and 1960s. Continuously dealt with discrimination at work including dress code for women, bathroom for “colored” people/women, unable to drink out of the same coffee pot as the others. z Racial and Ethnic Minorities African Americans are more likely to deal with racism and discrimination like Katherine Goble Johnson because of the color of her skin and for being a women. Low socioeconomic status and education attainment plus within the racial and ethnic minorities defines vulnerable especially because it is unlikely for someone of color to have a high education and good employment. African American has dealt with injustices of enslavement and colonialism which also face the highest rate of racial profiling leading to a change of society within the last 50 plus years. Why are the racial and ethnic minorities considering a vulnerable community?

z Personal Beliefs about Racial and Ethnic Minorities Have dealt with segregation and racism leading to psychological issues. Afraid of how cruel and unbiased people are leading to the unthinkable and having enough with the continuous actions of others against you. After completion of the movie, one can see the unspoken issues that continue to be issues even today because of how unequal and unfair the society is. This movie changes the mentality of someone to understand the injustice that one had to encounter during a time where discrimination and segregation existed. What are my personal beliefs about racial and ethnic minorities?

Counselors recognize the effects of age, color, culture, disability, ethnic group, gender, race, language preference, religion, spirituality, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status on test administration and interpretation, and they place test results in proper perspective with other relevant factors. What ethical dilemmas may a clinical mental health counselor encounter when counseling individuals within racial and ethnic minorities?
z How to Advocate: What can you do to advocate for racial and ethnic minorities as an educator? Ensuring the clients that this is a safe environment where you won't be discriminated or profile for the age, gender, ethnicity, race, religion etc. Help understand the clients by exploring their personal beliefs, values and attitudes. Build a trusting counselor-client relationship to allow the client to open freely.
