Review Quantitative and Qualitative Methods in Chapter 1 and Chapter 8, survey research. Briefly discuss the use of survey research in exploratory, descriptive, explanatory, and evaluation studies. Using a criminal justice example, select one type of research study and develop one research question that you might use in a research proposal. When research is done, there are two designs. The research is qualitative or quantitative. Qualitative research uses open-ended questions and interviews to get information. The data gained is used to describe the phenomena. Quantitative research uses analyses of numerical data to explain the relationship. This form of research can use surveys to explore the subject. Exploratory research is the process of investigating an issue. The inquiry is based on formulating a hypothesis. The surveys are utilized to do research quickly. The information can be used in both qualitative and quantitative investigations. The surveys give feedback that is vital to conclude the subject. The process uses random sampling to make decisions on the population. Descriptive research looks to define the people and the phenomena clearly. Explanatory research gives the reason the investigation is happening. The results of this research come from sampling and surveys. The evaluation looks to determine if the program serves its purpose. This looks into the purpose of the research rather than the method to be used. It evaluates the impact of social interventions, and surveys are used to clarify the study's objectives.
