Feiyan Li HDFS 4318 08/31/2023 Theories Assignment #2 In this chapter, I find the most appealing theory to be Family Systems Theory. In this theory, families are understood best by examining the family as one whole system. This system is a collection of subsystems and family members which have their own purpose or function. The Family Systems Theory also suggests that families operate in a similar manner to other systems and subsystems in nature. Because of this, this system can be easily combined with Ecological Systems Theory. Ecological systems theory describes child development as a system of relationships that are affected by several levels of the nearby environment, immediate family, school surroundings, as well as laws and customs of the community. The microsystem is a subsystem that is the most inﬂuential of the ecological systems theory because it contains the immediate environmental setting of the developing child, such as family, friends, and school. This combines smoothly with Family Systems Theory which describes a family as being a whole, complex, and single system in which each family member’s behaviors can affect another member.
