2 Crime Rate Comparison Introduction Violent crimes like robbery, assault, and homicide happen in Tennessee and Mississippi all too often. Data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) highlights these crimes for both states. Observing the information reveals Tennessee comes in 3rd in violent crime in America (Langston, 2022). The state ranks tenth in the nation in men killing women. The increase in crime is possibly due to the social justice movement and the no-bail initiatives. The crime rate in Tennessee increased by twenty-eight percent (USAFacts.gov, 2023). There were four hundred violent crimes for every 100,000 redsidents in Tennessee in 2020. The rate for violent crime was 673 for 100,000 people. The rate is linked to letting criminals back on the streets without rehabilitation (Langston, 2022). The FBI reports the crime rate in Mississippi was 277 per 100,000 people. The state has a high murder rate and simultaneously has lower violent crime rates (Robertson, 2020). For decades the FBI has used crime reports to get a picture of crime in each state. Report on the prevalence of the crimes you have examined. Over the years, the FBI's UCR Program has given data on the crime rate in the u.s. annually. The Tennessee Statistics show people are fifteen percent more worried than other American about being the victim of violent crimes. Tennessee reported fewer occurrences of rape (Goldstein, 2023). From 2012 to 2018, the crime rate decreased by twenty-four percent. Tennessee's crime rate for violent crime has reduced by nine percent since 2019. Property crime fell by 6% in 2019 (Goldstein, 2023). In 2019 the crime rate for violent events in America was 389 crimes per 100,000 Americans nationwide. The FBI statistics show there were 1.3 million violent crimes in 2020. This was a five percent rise from 2019. In TN, there were 498 homicides

3 in 2019. The number of murders can be linked to the fourteen percent poverty rate. The most frequent crime in the state is aggravated assault. This crime accounts for seventy-seven percent of violent crimes, a rate ten percent higher than the national average. Larceny is the property crime most prevalent in Tennessee (Goldstein, 2023). A glance at Mississippi Crime Statistics shows the state has 2,667 incidents of violent crime for every 100,000 residents. This rate is almost four hundred percent higher than its most prominent city Jackson. It is virtually seven hundred percent increased than the national average. The state of Mississippi had an eleven percent decline in property crimes. This rate is still higher than the national average (Goldstein, 2023). Only six percent of the residents in the state believe they will be a victim of a violent crime. The violent crime rate is the fifth highest in the nation. There has also been a twenty-three percent rise in the occurrences of rape (Goldstein, 2023). The violent crimes in the state have increased by eleven percent, but remain the lowest in the region. Since the year 1994, crime was projected to fall thirty percent. The state can have the highest poverty rate at all twenty percent on the national level. This high poverty level is an inducer of crime (Goldstein, 2023). The state has reduced its property crime rate by twenty-four percent in twenty-two. Propose a causal explanation for the variations. The FBI has collected data on crime in America for decades. When this is observed for the crime rates in TN and MS, it is clear that the same trends happen in both states. TN saw a drop in its crime rate, and MS also. Property crimes in each state also decreased as of twenty- three. In the region, Alabama is leading both TN and MS in property crime rates (Carlsen, 2023). People in TN and MS are concerned with violent crime. Inflation, poverty, and low incomes

4 plague the people of both states. Both states have high poverty levels. Poverty has long been thought to indicate increased crime. People feel safe living in both states (Carlsen, 2023). Predict future outcomes on temporal analysis The FBI has a database of information on crimes committed in America, giving it a snapshot of violent crimes each year.s nationwide crime (Thomas, 2023). Forecasting the future of crime in TN and MS can be tricky and risky. Criminologists find it challenging to understand why rates might rise or fall. Predicting events has no guarantees (Thomas, 2023). One must look at what has and might in these states to predict. When crime is observed, it is expected that the homicide rates will continue to increase in both states. This rate is based on the rate increase since the nineteen nineties. The projection can also be attributed to the loose gun laws in both states. The rate can look to go up twenty-two percent. Since both states are consumed with high poverty rates, the is a chance crimes like assaults, gun violence, and robberies will rise by six percent. Larcenies will increase by eight percent (Thomas, 2023). The way to control the rise in violent crimes is for each state to curtail the conditions that cause crime (Thomas, 2023). What research design would you propose? The FBI keeps information on the crimes that happen in the nation. The data is collected and stored each year. The data can be used to show the trend s in the crime rate in many ways. The database can be the subject of many research methods (Keiser University, 2023). The best way to discover fine details in the data is to use survey research. This kind of research can be essential in collecting data on extensive samples. The questions on the surveys can give more insight into the population. The responses to the study can determine the experiences of the subgroups. Experimental research can use scientific methods to test outcomes (Keiser University, 2023). The conducted experiment can be divided into two groups. There is a variable

5 being observed in the study. The investigation will provide the groups with surveys to determine how they lead to specific outcomes. The control group will remain unchanged to compare results. Conclusion The FBI uses collected data to determine the crime rates each year. Many conditions impact the crime rates in America. A look at the crime rates in TN and MS shows some kinds of crime increased, and some crimes decreased. There is a fireproof plan that determines what happens with crime rates. Corruption can be affected by gun laws, poverty, and work conditions. There is a lot of rhetoric involved in the causes of crime. Stats can point to poverty. Other calculations can say that letting people out of jails increases the crime rate. There is not one thing that can be blamed. What can be done is taking the numbers and observing how crime changes over the years (Latzer, 2023)
