Michelle Main Post Week 3 Evaluate the author's use of literature and Research problem. In the article "Hand Hygiene Performance and Beliefs among Public University Employees," Stedman- Smith et al. (2013) explained that hand washing hygiene and its performance and beliefs among public university employees are essential. The authors effectively established the problem of employers' interest in minimizing infectious disease among employees. That desire was supported by data from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Center for Disease Control (CDC) and further citations from academic articles. The authors refined the discussion's direction into a study of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and whether it could guide understanding of knowledge, attitudes, and practices of self-reported hand hygiene behavior as a prerequisite to a planned worksite hand hygiene intervention (Stedman-Smith et al., 2013). Hypotheses were proposed to explain, evaluate, and make credible predictions on hand hygiene behavior. The introduction, guidance, and theory outline a study that aims to create best practices for using TPB as a guideline for hand hygiene treatments. Furthermore, a plan of action for applying the TBP model further to comprehend the successes and limitations of hand hygiene initiatives was anticipated. There appears to be a leap in conclusion on the need to implement hand hygiene behaviors and environmental change. Moreover, the authors' conclusion included an assumption that community hand hygiene enhancement efforts had reduced infections and disease. However, there was no supporting documentation to back up this claim. There was a comparison study but no citations in this con conclusion, which the authors delivered at a previous date. Explain what it means for a research study to be justified and grounded in the literature; then, explain what it means for a problem to be original. To justify a research study, relevant statistics, documentable disparities, and other scholarly evidence must demonstrate the problem's significance and urgency. The challenge must be a real "puzzle" that must be solved rather than simply a topic the researcher is interested in (Walden University Office of Research and Doctoral Services, 2015c). For the study to be grounded, you must begin by describing the problem using a theoretical or conceptual framework. Although there are numerous methods for grounding a study in scientific literature, the most essential condition is that the topic be framed so that the discoveries have consequences for the earlier findings (Walden University Office of Research and Doctoral Services, 2015c). In summary, the existing literature must be more robust in effectively substantiating the subject matter. The commonly held belief that proper hand hygiene reduces illness is not backed by referenced evidence. Despite guidelines from the CDC and WHO, the significance of these practices needs to be elaborated upon. The study suggests that sharing information on hand hygiene will aid in crafting better strategies for employee health practices (Stedman-Smith et al., 2013). The research's almost philosophical tone concludes with the finding that 'sharing information about enhancing strategies' is a strategy. Reference: Babbie, E. (2017).
