Definition and Application of Generalist Practice Asha McCallum Walden University
Definition and Application of Generalist Practice At some point in your life, you may require the assistance of a social worker. These professionals work with a variety of populations and tackle issues on multiple levels. The key to effective social work is to approach each case with integrity, compassion, empathy, and a non- biased perspective in order to help individuals overcome their challenges. Generalist Practice As a social worker, I offer support to families, communities, and individuals. My work is multifaceted, encompassing mezzo, macro, and micro levels, and is guided by ethical principles and critical thinking (Segal and Steiner, 2019). I am resourceful and act as an advocate, providing interventions to help overcome barriers and promote growth. My ultimate goal is to effect positive change in the lives of the people, families, and communities I serve. Population and/or Problem As a social worker, I have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of individuals and communities, including children and families, elderly individuals, those with disabilities or mental health conditions, and those living in poverty. However, there are many challenges that can arise in this line of work, such as child neglect, substance abuse, homelessness, lack of access to healthcare, racism, domestic violence, and the need for social change and justice for underprivileged communities as a whole. It is crucial for social workers to be equipped to handle these tough issues and become agents of change. According to Dowd (2018), "Social workers must be prepared to help clients who may have few resources to escape poverty, gang life, or an abusive home environment." Personally, I feel drawn to working with low-income and poverty- stricken populations. Role of Case Manager
As a case manager, my main objective is to champion equality for underserved and underprivileged populations. In this regard, I often provide resources such as local food banks, shelters, health care, and finances. To achieve this, I constantly strive to expand my cultural awareness and sensitivity, as this ensures that my actions as a social worker are free from any cultural bias. (Segal and Steiner, 2019, p. 182). Person-in-Environment Perspective To gain a deeper insight into an individual's cultural background, a social worker must adopt a person-in-environment perspective that takes into account their personal network, including family and friends, as well as the broader community in which they reside. By empathetically putting themselves in the individual's position, a social worker can better comprehend the potential impact of various circumstances on that person's life (Segal & Steiner, 2019). Strengths-Based Perspective As a social worker, it is important to approach underprivileged families with a strength- based perspective. By actively listening, interacting, and asking open-ended questions, we can show empathy and help empower them. Through positive talk and acknowledgement, we can assist families in overcoming obstacles. Conclusion n summary, it is essential for general practitioners to be mindful of the population they serve to effectively identify problems and implement solutions at both the individual and environmental levels. To achieve this, a person-in-environment perspective should be utilized to better understand the individual's needs and their environment. Additionally, a strength-based perspective should be employed by social workers to address any required changes for the

individual or family. On a mezzo, macro, and micro level, general practitioners must uphold ethical principles and utilize critical thinking (Segal and Steiner, 2019). I’m writing this letter as I do not agree with the leadership practice that is being conducted in the ACT 4 team. The team is being instructed by the leadership of the ACT 4 team to disobey the leadership of the active CEO and yourself. The team has also been informed not to attend any more mandatory meetings. The supervisor informed the team that she filed a report with QI against the active CEO and yourself (Dr. Millet) for teaching inappropriate note writing. The team was instructed to continue to write notes according to how she educated the team to do so to avoid her losing her license. The ACT team 4 environment consists of manipulation, and a toxic environment as some are told if they engage with the team outside of the workplace they will not do well on the team. The supervisor as well as the team lead spend more time handling personal affairs than in the office assisting the team. I’m bringing these concerns to your attention due to the turnover rate of the team and the burnout rate of the team due to poor supervision. If you was to conduct an investigation and speak to each team member individually it would confirm what this letter is informing you of. My accomplishment DWright relocated him into a safer environment, got him to commit to taking his medications as he was not taking any medication =s when I started working with him, got him laser surgery in both eyes, build his coping skills to prevent him from hospitalized for attempted suicide (last for a little over 6 months as I was not fully actively involved in his mental health treatment) Got him registered for MOM meals has he had no food resources when I started working with him.
WHill was constantly in the hospital due to declining health and obesity. Provided interventions to help Ms. Hill with coping skills and educated Ms. Hill on the importance of eating healthily, losing weight, and taking medications. Ms. Hill was sleeping in a recliner chair upon working with her. She now has a medical bed. Ms Wanda has not been admitted into the hospital in a year now and has lost a significant amount of weight and is no longer bedridden. RRussell was assigned to me due to his poor living conditions. RS advocated and network to find him an appropriate apartment that is handicap accessible. CSR presented depression due to failure to provide person centered treatment. RS advocated for what CSR wanted as he was not happy with someone else managing his money. MHughes client is homeless by choice due to his apartment being overrun by a previous client. RS collaborate with his housing case manager and secured him an apartment. I’m not waiting for the housing case manager to complete the proper paperwork. PSamuel was facing eviction due to non-compliance in paying rent. Lived in a basement apartment efficiently. RS educated CSR on the importance of paying her rent. RS also advocated CSR to be moved out of the basement unit due to previous fire living there triggered CSR. Housing agreed to transfer CSR if rent is paid in full. CSR is now transferred to a one-bedroom apartment. MLewis advocated for CSR to be safely moved from CRF working along side the Ombudsmen office and DBH. With intervention I manage to get CSR in a place where he started paying his rent at the CRF and also found him a new place at the SRO.
