Environmental Awareness Journal Climate Change According to The White House (2021), the world is facing a profound climate crisis, and we have a limited time to take action to prevent catastrophic consequences and seize the opportunity presented by addressing climate change. Individually, one person can make a positive or negative impact on climate change. If someone chooses not to recycle and drives their car every day, even to nearby locations, for a year, they contribute to the problem. On the other hand, if someone recycles for a year, parks their car, and walks or cycles to different locations in their community, they can mitigate the effects of climate change.  The government should incentivize citizens to switch from emission vehicles to electric vehicles. Taxes should be imposed on high-emission vehicles. Taxes collected from high- emission vehicles could pay for the incentives to switch from emission vehicles to electric vehicles. According to EIA (2022), “Scientists know with virtual certainty that increasing greenhouse gas concentrations tend to warm the planet.” If the government decrease the use of emission can slow down climate change.   In the city where I work, there is a constant flow of construction as high-rise apartments and office buildings are being built. This leads to more traffic and people in the city, leaving less room for trees and wildlife. Recently, wildlife such as bears, coyotes, and deer have been spotted in the communities and neighboring backyards. More park settings are needed to plant more trees and protect wildlife. Trees are a valuable resource of oxygen, something that we all need. The animals play an important role in the ecosystem as well. Protecting wildlife can help combat climate change. According to Whitt (2023), "The study showed that protecting or restoring wild
Environmental Awareness Journal animals could collectively lead to the additional capture of 6.41 billion tons of carbon dioxide every year." The existing conserved lands should not be open for construction because protecting them is crucial for maintaining the ecosystem and preserving wildlife. According to DCR Virginia (2022), conserving land and open space can provide habitat for native plants and animals and enhance ecosystem services. Global social justice is the fight for global equality. Everyone should have access to healthcare, food, and shelter. No one should suffer from poverty as everyone is a living, breathing human being no matter what country rich or poor you are from.
