SOC 112 Module Three Worksheet Statuses and Roles After reading Chapter 4 from the textbook, answer the following questions in complete sentences (1–3 sentences per question). Find at least one scholarly resource to support your answers. Your responses will be graded using the Module Three Worksheet Rubric. To complete this worksheet, replace the bracketed text with the relevant information.
Status 1 Status 2 Status 3 1. Describe three statuses that you occupy in society. The first status I occupy is being a college student. The second status I occupy is being a teacher. The third status I occupy is being a parent. 2. Identify whether each status is ascribed or achieved. Being a college student is an achieved status. I had to graduate high school and get accepted into a college program to become a college student. Being a teacher is an achieved status. I had to reach certain milestones in my education to become a teacher and then be accepted into a school district. Being a parent is an achieved status. I was not born into it and had my child. 3. Explain what the role expectations are for each status. A college student must be responsible and persistent. I am expected to complete my assignments on time and participate in class. A teacher has huge role expectations. They are responsible for teaching their students not only academics but also social skills and behavior skills. If they do not learn these things, they will most likely not be a productive part of society in their adulthood. The expectations of being a parent is to raise and teach your child(ren). Without learning manners and morals from a parent, you would not know how to live as an adult and be productive. 4. Provide one example of role conflict. I can say that there are always conflicts in my schedule with daily life and school. Because you want to hang out with your friends, or family you must sacrifice homework time. This has a tendency of making you fall behind on assignments. Role conflict is experienced when we occupy two or more roles with contradictory expectations(Ferris & Stein, 2022). This can be seen when you are teaching when you are trying to decide if working on behavior of the student is more important than working on academics. Working full-time and full time mommy can sometimes butt heads. The conflicts that I run into is “do I work and miss a school function or do I miss work and enjoy the school function with my child”. 5. Provide one example of role strain. Being a full-time college student has conflicts and role strain due to certain circumstances (Lenaghan & A role strain in teaching is the big question “do you discipline the child for bad behavior or be sympathetic A role strain in parenting could be anything from financial difficulty, to being over worked and being
