SOC 112 Module Eight Worksheet Your Sociological Lens Read the article titled “Understanding the Sociological Perspective: How Sociologists See the World” and watch the video How Does Social Change Happen? Questions Your Answers 1. Describe how you can use your newly developed sociological perspective in your everyday life. I can use my newly developed sociological perspective in everyday life in many ways! Using the sociological perspective, I will be able to see the world in a whole new way. I will be able to take a deeper look into everyday issues as well as analyze social issues better as well. My sociological perspective will allow me to see and recognize not only the world but the people in it! I will also be able to better understand my role in society and the relationships I have in my life. It will allow me to not only better understand my role in society but others ass well and understand why they are in that role. This is just a few of the ways I believe I will use my sociological perspective in everyday life. 2. What aspects of sociology can be helpful to you in your personal life? One aspect of sociology that could be helpful to me in my personal life is the understanding of social roles, it will help me better to understand some of the relationships in my life and the role an individual plays in society, in their family or in our friendship and allow me to better understand mine. Another aspect that I can apply to my personal life is being able to better understand who I am in society, why I am the way I am, what agents of socialization played such a huge part in my life. 3. What aspects of sociology can be helpful to you in your professional life? Since I am studying to be an addictions counselor, eventually a therapist, I truly believe every aspect of sociology will be helpful in my professional life. Understanding culture and culture differences will be a big aspect that will help me in my future profession, understanding what roles each person is expected to play in my profession will also be important, understanding and recognizing social influence will also be important in my profession if I want to be better understand my clients and the roots of their addiction. Being able to understand the sociological concepts is also going to be a big part of my professional life as well, I will need to be knowledgeable in all of the concepts. 4. How can a deeper understanding of human interaction be helpful in the real world? A deeper understanding of human interaction in the real world is very helpful. It allows us to grow as a society and have a better chance of understanding one another and recognizing different issues each person deals with. It also helps us understand an individual’s identity better, as well as our own. As humans we cannot live alone, and human interaction is important for physical and mental health. It is helpful to solve conflicts, to build our identities as people.
