Report
Starts Dec 2 There have been many social changes and social movements in the past several decades. The Civil Rights Movement, Black Lives Matter movement, Gay Rights Movement, and the #MeToo movement are just a few examples of social movements that accompanied social change. Sociologists often describe social change as the only constant in society. Your post should explain what they mean by that and provide an example of social change that has occurred during your lifetime. Your post should also address how this social change has impacted or changed society's understanding of social roles or inequalities. In response to your peers, identify one way that technology has influenced the social change they identified in their initial post. Please note this concept is part of your final submission. Make sure you review this concept in the Final Project Guidelines and Rubric document. As you prepare for this portion of your final paper, remember to support your ideas with academic or scholarly sources. Following is an example of a credible, relevant, and recent source you can use for your project: Morris, A. (2021). The power of social justice movements.   Scientific American ,  324(3), 24– 37. To complete this assignment, review the Discussion Rubric . Social change   refers to the transformation of culture, behavior, social institutions, and social structure over time. Sociologists consistently underscore the ever-changing nature of society, highlighting that social change is the reliable constant that continuously molds and reshapes the very fabric of our communities. The transformation of culture, behavior, social institutions, and social structure over time is what defines social change. The LGBTQ movement stands out as a significant social movement that has had profound effects on various aspects of society throughout my lifetime. Bitterman states, “ Generations give structure to society. Through engagement with our beliefs, behaviors, and values, we understand the world around us—and other people—based on our experience through a generational cohort with which we identify. As societies and cultures progress through time, generations are one metric by which humans organize shared experiences throughout history.” (Bitterman, 2020) This movement has had a positive impact on society's perception of individuals who are different from them. The increased awareness and education about lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders have played a crucial role in bringing about this change. Additionally, the movement has provided a sense of belonging to LGBT individuals, assuring them that they are not alone. Consequently, society has begun to become more accepting and has taken measures to address the mistreatment and inequalities that these individuals still encounter in certain circumstances.
