PY 115.01 Child Development and Learning Name: Julianna Wilson Date: 10/9/22 CHAPTER 5 ACTIVITY 3/ LEARNING GOAL 3: DISCUSS THE CONNECTION OF PERCEPTION AND ACTION REVIEW: How are perception and motor actions coupled in development? Perceptions and motor actions are coupled by laws of control that relate informational variables to parameters of the action system. CONNECT: In this section, you learned that perceptual and motor development do not occur in isolation from each other but instead are coupled. How is this distinction similar to the distinction psychologists make when speaking of nature and nurture when describing development? Nature refers largely to our genetics, it includes the genes we are born with and other factors that can impact our personality being formed and influence the way we develop from childhood through adulthood. Nurture factors the impact on who we are also. Both nature and nurture affect behavior and personalities. REFLECT: YOUR OWN PERSONAL JOURNEY OF LIFE: Think about your development as a child. Describe two examples, not given in the text, in which your perception guided your action. Then describe two examples, not given in the text, in which your action guided your perception. Two examples of perception guiding my actions is when somebody texts me rudely, I take it very differently and I think before I text and also when I am
playing basketball on the court, when I get fouled disrespectfully, I think about it before I make an action. Two examples of my actions guiding my perception are when I am in school and the teacher asks me a question that I can look in the book and find, I act on the question and flip through the pages and look. Lastly, when somebody wants to have a conversation with me, I act first and think about what I am going to say before I do.
