Topic 2 DQ 2 (Obj. 2.1 and 2.2) Assessment Description What ideas do you have for using a social justice approach within the context of social policymaking, social policy implementation, and social policy research/evaluation? Note how you plan to use a social justice approach in your work as a social work professional. This discussion question is informed by the following EPAS Standards: 3: Advance Human Rights and Social, Economic, and Environmental Justice 5: Engage in Policy Practice To create equality for marginalized communities and address systematic injustices, social policy must incorporate a social justice approach. This can entail working with representatives to develop policies that address the underlying inequities rather than just the symptoms, involving marginalized communities in the decision-making process, and performing detailed analyses of existing gaps. Adopting a social justice perspective in policymaking involves constant research and revision. Social workers can help people who may be having difficulty receiving services, advocate for changes needed, and make sure that policies are being implemented as designed (Jansson, B. S., 2019). Social workers that employ a social justice approach should focus on obtaining information that illustrates inequalities and disproportionate outcomes. To guarantee that underprivileged concerns are addressed, a social worker can play an active role in campaigning and work with legislators to use their capacity to impact policy decisions.
