Week 6 Discussion replies to classmates Hi Hanna, Thank you for your suggestions. They were very helpful for me. To ensure your question, I will first begin the lesson with the KWL. The students can answer the question, "What do you know about Chief Powhatan and Pocahontas?" After students have answered the question, we will read the book and then pair up to complete the KWL chart together by pairing up with a partner and doing research online. Additionally, I will have a group with me in the back table assisting the ESL and reading struggling students. Hello, I enjoyed reading your post about games that are related to the lesson and also relate to Native Americans. They sound fun and interesting. I have a question - did you have to show them a demonstration of each game or were they able to engage in the games without any demonstration? I had an experience where some students had difficulty playing a game because they simply did not want to participate. Hello, I enjoyed reading your post about Native American tribes. I started mine with a KWL I found it helpful as I would find out the student's background knowledge. It's great to study traditions that are passed down from generation to generation. We need to learn more about our culture. One effective way to pair students in groups is by using letters. The teacher can prepare pieces of paper with the letters A, B, C, or D written on them and distribute one piece of paper to each student. Then, students can form groups with classmates who have the same letter. This can also be accomplished using colored tokens. Many students find this method enjoyable and easy to use.
