Dynamics of Oppression – Assignment #3 Identifying characteristics of Internalized Oppression And how to be an ally Internalized Oppression is a struggle for many oppressed groups. Often one of the most overlooked aspects of a service users care is the impact of oppression. In this assignment, you will practice identifying the characteristics of Internalized Oppression, society’s contributions to supporting internalized oppression and how you can be an ally. The late policy in the course outline will apply. Assignments must be submitted via Blackboard ONE HOUR BEFORE CLASS Week 13. There will be no extensions without negotiation prior to the due date with the professor. It must be typed 1.5 spacing, using 12-point font and 1inch margins. Please number your answers so it is obvious which question you are responding to. Up to 20% will be deducted for spelling, typographical and grammatical errors . You must reference all your work using in text citation. Which is hyperlinked This assignment should be 3-4 pages in length. Please edit your work. You can choose to complete this assignment individually or in pairs Note the mark value of each question and respond accordingly Choose one of the statements in this assignment Quote the statement at the beginning of your submission before answering the question and number each question 1 mark 1) Explain why this is an example of internalized oppression. Use references from the Blackboard readings in addition to class PowerPoints to support your position (3/4-1 pg.) 10 marks 2)What are the messages society generates that leads to people internalizing these views? About themselves or their group or another marginalized group. Give 3 examples from popular culture (e.g., you tube, TV, blog, etc.) Describe the example and how it supports the internalized oppression statement. Reference all examples by including links to videos and sites 9 marks
