Passage: Acts 19:11-22
A.
How does this passage from Acts fit within the metanarrative of the Bible? State what
type of story you believe this to be (creation, fall, redemption, or new creation) and
explain why you believe this to be so? Your explanation should be 1 paragraph (150-300
words) in length. It may be good to review chapter 6 in
Everyday Bible Study
to recall
what each of these four themes are about.
I believe this story Acts 19:11-22 to be a story about redemption. This story shows how powerful
God can be because it carries out of mission of redemption throughout the world. Paul shows the
Gods ability at work, God was creating miracles through Paul, while driving out evil spirits. The
Sceva Sons show readers that there needs to be a relationship with God because without belief in
him it’s very impractical. Acts 19:11-22 is a story of redemption, it shows Gods purpose being
carried out through Gospels such as Paul who was releasing people from sin and darkness.
B.
How does your theological principle from Acts 19:11-22 fit with the rest of the Scripture?
This principle is the one you have written out in 1-3 sentences in the Interpretation
Assignment. If your theological principle is a true Biblical principle, it will be reflected
throughout the Scriptures. Where is the theological principle discovered in this New
Testament narrative found elsewhere in the Scriptures? Your explanation should be 1
paragraph (150-300 words) in length. Be specific. Give, explain, and cite your supporting
passage(s) from Scripture.
Acts 19:11-22 emphasizes transformational power of a relationship with Christ and the folly.
Anyone can find faith through scriptures. The book of Matthew says “He warns not everyone
who calls Him “Lord” will enter heaven, but only those who do His Father’s will (Matthew 7:21-
23). This makes having a genuine connection with Christ a necessity. In Ephesians 4:22-24 it
states, “To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt
through deceitful desires
and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new
self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness." Whereas Matthew
15:8-9 God condemns meaningless rituals apart from deep devotion. Acts 19:11-22 has the
recurring theme present in both the Old and New Testament, which is that there is a real
transformational connection with God.

C.
How does your theological principle from this passage in Acts reflect the person and
work of Jesus Christ? State and explain at least one way that the theological principle of
this passage correlates with something of the person and work of Jesus Christ. Your
explanation should be 1 paragraph (150-300 words) in length. Be specific. Give, explain,
and cite your supporting passage(s) from Scripture.
The act emphasizes the necessity to have a genuine relationship with Christ to have a real
effective use of His name and be able to transform your lives and the lives of others.
Romans
12:1-2 tells us that
it is by the mercy of God that we can be spiritually transformed and no longer
live as enemies of God
. It is by the renewing of our minds that we can live transformed lives.
When we are spiritually transformed, we will think and act differently. This passage shows us
that if we give everything, we have to God we will be transformed and no longer have the
spiritual demons. It shows us that through the mercy with God, he will lead us and protect us, but
we need to make that genuine connect first, then the rest will fall into place.
