:
Cartwright and McClendon (ch. 1):
The
first-century world had significant
relevance for us today as it laid the
historical and cultural foundation for the
New Testament, shaping the context in
which Jesus and the early Christians lived.
Cartwright and McClendon (ch. 2):
The
key point in the Gospel of Matthew is the
theme of "lived righteousness as critical to
the discipleship mandate," emphasizing
that disciples are called not only to trust in
Jesus but to teach others to embody his
teachings.
Murphy ch 1:
Chapter 1 intends to
demonstrate that Christians worship a
God who asks concerns and attempts to
gain our faith by doing so.
Matthew 1-28: The key point in the Gospel
of Matthew 1-28 is the presentation of
Jesus as the Messiah, the fulfillment of Old
Testament prophecies, and the
establishment of His teachings,
culminating in the Great Commission to
make disciples of all nations.
W
ATCH
:
Questions in the Gospels:
The key point is
that Jesus used questions to reveal his
personality, uncover reality, and, most
importantly, invited intimate conversation
and relationship with those he met,
ultimately demonstrating the importance

of an inquisitive nature in holy ways.
Matthew:
The video of Matthew lays apart
the Gospel of Matthew that presents Jesus
as the fulfillment of Old Testament
prophecies, tracing his lineage back to
King David and highlighting his role as
the Messiah and teacher.
Mark:
The video of Mark presents an
overview of the Gospel of Mark and
emphasizes the actions and deeds of Jesus
during his ministry.

R
EAD
:
Cartwright and McClendon:
One key point
about chapter 5 is the aim to strengthen
the faith of discouraged Jewish Christians,
emphasizing the deity of Christ and
encouraging belief in Jesus as the
resurrected Messiah in the face of
persecution and expulsion from
synagogues.
Murphy:
One key point from chapter 2 is
in the begging, humanity had an intimate
and open relationship with God, free from
questions and doubts, but this harmony
was disrupted when the first question
(Satan as the serpent) led to hesitation and
disobedience.
John 1-21:
Key point in chapters John 1-
21 is to emphasize the divinity of Jesus
Christ, portraying Him as the Word made
flesh and highlighting His miraculous
signs, teachings, crucifixion, and
resurrection as proof of His identity as the
Son of God and the Savior of humanity.
W
ATCH
:
Luke:
Key point is that the book of Luke is
detailed biography of Jesus Christ, divided
into four parts: preparation, power,
parables, passion and also portraying him
Page 2 of 9
BIBL 110
as a powerful teacher.
John:
The key point is that the Gospel of
John is primarily focused on belief, with
the author emphasizing the importance of
faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and
the source of eternal life, providing
numerous examples and encounters
throughout the narrative to encourage
readers to believe in Him.
The Deity of Jesus:
One key point is that
Jesus claimed to be both the Son of God
and the Son of Man, and these claims are
crucial in establishing his deity, as these
titles carry significant theological
implications.
The Resurrection of Jesus:
The key point is
the “minimal facts argument” for the
resurrection of Jesus, which relies on six
established facts and builds a strong case
for the resurrection that is widely accepted
by critical scholars.

R
EAD
:
Cartwright and McClendon:
One key point
is that the Book of Acts, written by Luke,
addresses the question of who can enter
into a relationship with God and where
God’s promised kingdom is located,
particularly focusing on the inclusion of
Gentiles in the kingdom of God.
Murphy:
The key point I got was that
stories like “Rip Van Winkle” serve as
allegories cautioning against the dangers
of falling into prolonged slumber and
missing out on important moments in life.
Acts 1-28:
One key point of Acts 1-28 is
that it narrates the early history of the
Christian church, its expansion, and the

R

into four major units and serves multiple

R
EAD
:
Cartwright and McClendon:
The key point
is that Paul wrote the letter to the
Colossians in response to the Colossian
Heresy, which was a deceptive teaching
blending Jewish and pagan elements that
undermined the purity of the gospel, and
he countered it by emphasizing the fullness
of Jesus Christ.

sheep in the story, people often resist the
healing and restoration they need because
they fear the process, even though it is for
their own good.

worthy of constant devotion.
Murphy:
A key point from this chapter is

resources out of a perception of false
poverty.

For Module 8, please answer the
following questions in
preparation
for engaging the final week of
content:
What has been one textual
source you have enjoyed or
looked forward to engaging
throughout the term. Explain
why.
What has been one video
presentation source you have
enjoyed or looked forward to
engaging through the term.
Explain why.
What are three key points
you have learned from the
content you would like to
take away from this course?
What do you hope will be
covered by content in our
final week?
Responses:
The one textual source I’ve really
enjoyed is, “Approaching the New
Testament” by Adam McClendon
and John Cartwright because the
textual source resonates with me
on a personal level which was a
very emotional experience for me
to read through.
One video presentation source I
have really enjoyed was the Gospel
of Matthew video because it is my
favorite Gospel and has a
compelling portrayal of the life and
teachings of Jesus Christ.
Three key points I have learned
that I would take away from the
course are; the life and teachings
of Jesus Christ, Paul’s epistles and
early Christian life, as well as the
historical/cultural context.
I hope the last week will cover the
deep dive into the book of
Revelation which I also hope
covers the end times, judgement,
and the ultimate triumph of God’s
kingdom.
