Journal Submission Week 9 – Ethan Cornelius My favorite woman from the New Testament and why? (from the webinar) I really enjoyed listening to and learning about Tabitha in the webinar. I really enjoyed hearing about her story because it is not one of the most popular of the women in the New Testament, and it highlights a woman who was a disciple of Christ. I really enjoyed hearing about how she was able to essentially rise up from being dead. I think that this was possible due to her service to her fellowmen in her lifetime. I believe that because of her service to the needy through donation of time and talent making clothes, she was able to rise again. I think that we can all take something away from this story, in the sense that if we serve and act in a god-pleasing way, the potential for our blessings is limitless. The Last Supper and Gethsemane, Prompt #1: Which lesson, principle or teaching from the Last Supper is most meaningful to you personally? Take a moment to write down how you could apply it in your life. (1–2 paragraphs) I think that the biggest takeaway for me from The Last Supper is the lesson of continuous service regardless of status. At the last supper, Jesus served his disciples in ways which the son of god was not required or asked to. I think that if we follow his example of continuous service and humility, the world would be a better place. I work at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake and feel at times frustrated or embarrassed and annoyed by the work I do. I am a nurse aid so I see and do some things that most people will never do in their lifetime. I recognize that this job has taught me how to be patient and understanding to the sick and afflicted. I know that I am serving others who cannot care for themselves physically. I think that by remembering the lords service to his disciples during the Last Supper helps me to remain calm at work and helps me remember that I am doing service. The Last Supper and Gethsemane, Prompt #2: Which lesson, principle, or teaching from the Savior’s final discourse is most meaningful to you personally? Take a moment to write down how you could apply it in your life. (3–4 sentences) I really enjoyed the messages shared in John 16:33. I love how the lord is reminding us that there is peace in Christ. I love how while the world may be in turmoil or things in our lives seem to go south, there is always a safe space in the savior's arms. In my life right now, I worry a lot about my future and accomplishing my goals of attending med school. While I worry a lot, I often forget that there is calm in the lord, I need to remember this more when I am having a breakdown.
The Last Supper and Gethsemane, Prompt #3: Which lesson, principle, or teaching from the Savior’s experience in Gethsemane is most meaningful to you personally? Take a moment to write down how you could apply it in your life. (3–4 sentences) To me, the analogy of Christ's sweat being like blood in Gethsemane was very powerful. I cannot imagine the pain my savior suffered for me. While It is often hard to think and truly understand the pain the savior felt in Gethsemane, it is one of my favorite scriptures. I sometimes feel that the weight of the world is resting on my shoulders and that there is no redemption for me. When I think of the savior in Gethsemane, I realize that what I am feeling, the savior felt and endured for me. I can apply this to my life when the going gets tough and I need some inspiration to continue choosing the right.
