Response: This week’s Article of Faith has been really interesting to study more about and gain more insight on. It truly is an amazing thing that God loves us to give us spiritual gifts to help us during this life and have more motivation and desire to want to follow the commandments. Some passages that stuck out to me this week were Moroni 7: 33-48, and 2 passages from True to the Faith. Summarizing that every faithful member of the church has at
least 1 spiritual gift and it’s given to serve others and we receive blessings as we do so.
During my mission Moroni 7 and the topic of spiritual gifts meant a ton to me. Especially his discourse on faith, hope, and charity and how they are gifts from the Lord. Something that always stood out to me about that phrase is that they are given as we work with the Lord, depend on him, and even pray for those specific gifts to be given. It is almost impossible to cultivate these gifts just on our own merits without including the Lord into the equation. It has shown me that it requires both sides to be working in order for these gifts to manifest into our lives. We need to take
leaps of faith, hope and do everything in our power to be charitable or loving to others around us. As we do so with righteous intent the Lord will magnify those gifts and manifest them through us as we serve.
Word Count: 252 4. Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World
There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own:
abortion
abuse/bullying
addiction
depression
divorce
domestic violence
energy/environmental issues
violence
gambling
genocide
homosexuality
international terrorism
materialism
natural disasters
pornography
unemployment
poverty
racial strife/hatred
religious intolerance/persecution
threats to religious liberty
same-sex marriage
suicide
Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about
the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know.
Write a response in at least 300-450 words
and list your word count at the end of your response.
5.
The world problem/issue I chose this week is:
Natural Disasters
Response: Growing up in the church I had some opportunities to serve in the Helping Hands organization and serve others who are in need service whether that be a local service project or small yard work in my ward. Service is such a key part of living the Gospel and helping others to see examples of Jesus Christ in their own lives. There aren’t many things that I’ve done in life that is spiritually satisfying as serving someone else and letting them know they are loved. I think about God and his ability to create powerful communities with his faithful and what they can do as they
come together under one purpose. I think about the natural worldwide disasters and the many forms they come in, and it seems that the church/helping hands is always there contributing. Thinking about spiritual gifts, revelation, and prophesying as the 7
th
article of faith explains. All of these beliefs create the foundation of what leads us to become almost unstoppable in going forward and doing the Lord’s work. We are all part of God’s family in the end and all have gifts given to us to lift each other up rather than bring each other down. All of us alone has specific spiritual gifts yes, but if we combine efforts with fellow believers around us and those spiritual gifts can turn into one body. The same as we are one body in the church and followers of Christ. We all have different thought processes, ideas, purposes, and functions that we can give to the greater whole. Natural disasters can happen far and wide, unfortunately they will continue to happen for as long as we are on the Earth. If we keep these principles in mind and
band together under one banner under Christ, we can overcome any adversity that may come our way individually or
as a whole.
