Reflection and Synthesis Report Name: Bryce Campbell Week #: 6 Instructions In the table provided below, you will complete your reflection and synthesis responses for this week. Be sure to complete each Response section. When referencing scripture or other materials, only include a brief or abbreviated summary along with the citation as these cannot be included in the required word count. When you have completed the document, save it to your computer and follow the instructions in your course to submit the assignment to your instructor. 1. Did you complete all the assigned reading for the week? [Yes] 2. Article of Faith Please identify the Article of Faith studied this week Response: “We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.” 3. Explanation of Key Events and Scriptures Demonstrate your comprehension of fundamental truths of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and your ability to use the scriptures to teach them. Be sure to include specific scripture references from the assigned readings Scenario: Imagine you have been asked by a family member or friend to share what you believe about the truths and events you studied this week. Share in your own words several insights as though you are really trying to teach someone. Include at least three scripture references to support the truths you teach (you may reference them, but there is no need to quote them). Share your testimony as you would when teaching someone. Your response will be evaluated by the following criteria: 1. 200–300 words in length (please include your word count at the bottom of the section). 2. Include at least 3 scripture references . Response: This week was really powerful in explaining the power and authority we claim to have directly from heaven to dop God's work here on earth. Doctrine and Covenants 121:16-22 really stood out to me regarding how everyone who fights against the righteous will fail in the end but also gives reason to why we remain righteous and hold to the iron rod. Another verse shortly after in verse 25 it says " For there is a time appointed for every man,
according as his works shall be." It really hit me personally thinking inward that not only will the wicked have a time appointed but everyone will whether they REMAIN righteous until the end. That's why it's so important to be watchful to of the attacks from the adversary as he can take with him those who were righteous and then fell from grace or walked away. I love Joseph Smith History and the power within the verses that tell the organization of Christ's church on the earth. Especially this week’s portion in verses 68-72 about the restoration of the priesthood and the ordinance of baptism. It gives me comfort to understand that we do hold the keys and authority from the Lord to do his work and receive the ordinances of salvation by someone with the authority to do them. Doctrine and Covenants 27:12-13 Stood out to me in helping me understand God's plan in all this. That the keys and authority we have today is the same that the apostles during Christ's time held. That God truly is a God that is the same today, yesterday and tomorrow. Knowing he is consistent gives me peace in knowing he will be following through on his promises to us throughout the scriptures in gaining exaltation and guide us through this life and trails we may face. Word Count: 291 4. Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again. Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own: abortion abuse/bullying addiction depression divorce domestic violence energy/environmental issues violence gambling genocide
homosexuality international terrorism materialism natural disasters pornography unemployment poverty racial strife/hatred religious intolerance/persecution threats to religious liberty same-sex marriage suicide Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know. Write a response in at least 300-450 words and list your word count at the end of your response. The world problem/issue I chose this week is: religious intolerance/persecution Response: In the world that we live in, religion is seen as almost as a negative thing. As well that everyone should believe however and whatever they think their own truth is and follow it. The more time continues the things of God become more hated when looked upon as the world gives into more and more sin and pleasures of the flesh. That’s why when they look upon Godly things they turn to persecution as a way to escape the guilt of the spirit and feel more comfortable in the way they are living. There are also many times where people who are part of a religious group become bad examples or representations of who we are supposed to be and creates that negative image as well. They look for perfection in an imperfect place. What gives me piece is the truth that even with persecution and intolerance, we have a prophet and those called by the power of God. Those same people speak for the lord and give us the roadmap in a world that would rather see us gone sometimes. As we serve and give people opportunities to be touched by the priesthood is one of the greatest ways we can grow our own testimonies of its powers and its abilities on this earth. Whether that be giving blessings, ordinations, sealings, baptisms, serving, and other small miracles that we see on a daily basis come from God’s power or his priesthood. I bear witness that from serving my mission, being in the temple, and giving blessings I have received revelation for things I couldn’t have known otherwise and because of that guidance I am where I am today. No matter what people say to you or even try to destroy your faith, always know that we have the peace to know in who we put our trust and who guides us in our daily lives.
