Response: I think this week’s Article of Faith is foundational to our church and coming to know the truth of the Doctrine of Christ. Some scriptures that stood out to me this week was 1st Nephi 13:24-27 & 38-42, 2 Nephi 3:12, and Mormon 7:8-10
The Book of Mormon holds a very special place in my heart. For the majority of my younger years my family was not active in church and didn't keep a schedule that was conducive to the spirit. We still believed but unfortunately our actions never really followed that belief. Missionaries came to our house and over time helped my parents and the rest of my siblings reactivate in the church and there was an immediate difference that could be felt in the home as we did those simple but powerful things that brought Christ and the spirit into our lives. For me the biggest aspect was the Book of Mormon. I knew who Jesus Christ was and what he did but nothing more than an knowledge of what he did. The Book of Mormon allowed me to have those integral spiritual experiences that taught me the power of the atonement of Christ, how he helps he on a daily basis, his foundational role as our Savior, and why he needed to come to this earth. It made reading the Bible simpler as using the knowledge that I learned from the Book of Mormon it allowed me to connect the dots on what Jesus was teaching as well as his Apostles. That's the reason these scriptures above stood out to me, they teach this principle that both scriptures work in tandem as witnesses of
Christ and his doctrine. So that we can all know the exact truth he is trying to get across as in the words of his apostles said "In the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses shall every word be established".
Word Count:318 4. Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World
There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own:
abortion
abuse/bullying
addiction
depression
divorce
domestic violence
energy/environmental issues
violence
gambling
genocide
homosexuality
international terrorism
materialism
natural disasters
pornography
unemployment
poverty
racial strife/hatred
religious intolerance/persecution
threats to religious liberty
same-sex marriage
suicide
Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about
the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know.
Write a response in at least 300-450 words
and list your word count at the end of your response.
5.
The world problem/issue I chose this week is:
abuse/bullying
Response: This is a very difficult topic to talk about and it takes a lot of courage to bring up with someone and trust them enough to believe you then try and do something about it. Whether that be reporting it or supporting in anyway possible abuse/bullying is despicable. God has always taught us to love our fellow man no matter what and forgive them of their trespasses which is easier said than done many times through our lives. We are left with so many questions without answers. One of the biggest being “Why me God?” or “Do you really love me enough to let this keep happening to me?” These are genuine questions that need to be answered and sometimes they take time. The greatest fundamental truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is that God is our loving heavenly father and he is there for us and you don’t have to take my word for it alone. You can search the scriptures in which he left for us to learn of him and his love. Not only his love but who he is and the way he goes about helping us make it back to him after this life and what we need to do now to get there. Time and time again throughout the scriptures in both the Bible and Book of Mormon we see examples of God’s love for his children and also as some parents do, show discipline as well. There are times where bad things even happen to the righteous people as we do live in a fallen world. It’s my testimony that through the scriptures we can learn much about who we are in an eternal aspect, what the purpose of life is, and how to apply that knowledge in your life. I have done it and have seen many great changes especially when I was younger. There was a time where I was not active in the church at all and Jesus Christ wasn’t really a priority for me. Once I decided to make the effort to change and prioritize the Gospel my life changed for the better and I know it can happen for you as well.
