Explanation of Key Events and
Scriptures
Demonstrate your comprehension of fundamental truths of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and your ability to use the scriptures to teach them. Be sure to include specific scripture references from the assigned readings
Scenario: Imagine you have been asked by a family member or friend to share what you believe about the truths and events you studied this week. Share in your own words several
insights as though you are really trying to teach someone. Include at least three scripture references to support the truths you teach (you may reference them, but there is no need to quote them). Share your testimony as you would when teaching someone. Your response will be evaluated by the following criteria:

200–300 words in length
(please include your word count at the bottom of the section).
2.
Include at least 3 scripture references
.
Response: If I need to approach a person explaining the restoration of the priesthood, I would like to start to explain what an
apostasy means. In True to the Faith, we find this definition:” When individuals or groups of people turn away from
the principles of the gospel, they are in a state of apostasy. Periods of general apostasy have occurred throughout
the history of the world. After times of righteousness, people have often turned to wickedness.” Now I would explain
that after the death of Jesus Christ and the 12 apostles, the priesthood authority has been taken away once again
from the earth because of the wickedness of the people in that period. In Amos 8:11-12 we can understand that
when the priesthood authority has been taken away from the earth, there would be a” famine in the land, not a
famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord.” In period like these, there is not the
true authority from God on earth. For this reason, in this last dispensation God needed to restore his gospel in his
fullness and he did exactly in the same way he always did in the past, calling a new prophet on earth. In Joseph Smith
History 1:68-72 we can read how the priesthood authority was restored directly from John the Baptist under the
direction of Peter, James and John. It is really important to receive this sacred authority form people called directly
from God to minister and confer his divine authority. Once explained the restoration of the priesthood, I will share
my testimony explaining the importance of keeping the commandments of God in order to keep the spirit and rights
to perform ordinances with the correct authority. In the scripture D&C 121:34-37 we can clearly read that in order to
act with the priesthood authority, we need to be found worthy and living in righteousness. Word Count: 320 4. Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World
There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own:
abortion
abuse/bullying
addiction
depression
divorce
domestic violence
energy/environmental issues
violence
gambling
genocide
homosexuality
international terrorism
materialism
natural disasters
pornography
unemployment
poverty
racial strife/hatred
religious intolerance/persecution
threats to religious liberty
same-sex marriage
suicide
Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about
the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know.
Write a response in at least 300-450 words
and list your word count at the end of your response.
5.
The world problem/issue I chose this week is:
Abuse/Bullying
Response: In order to explain the importance of the restoration of the priesthood to a person experiencing abuse/bullying I
would like to start telling them that God is Our Heavenly Father, he is a God of infinite love and he never used and he
will never use unrighteous dominion over his children. For this reason, the priesthood authority is God power here
on earth today in order to prepare his children to enter in covenants with him and to be able to meet him again one
day and live in his presence. I would share experiences where Jesus Christ used his priesthood authority to bless the
lives of others and not using his authority to forced dominion over God’s children. A couple of stories are: Matthew
14:13-21 is where many people had come to hear Jesus teach. They were there a long time and got very hungry.
There was only a little bread and fish to feed all of the people. Jesus blessed the food and told His disciples to give it
to the people. Everyone had enough to eat, and there was a lot of food left over. Another story is in John 9:1-12
when one day Jesus saw a man who was blind. He could not see and Jesus blessed the man so he could see. Another
one is in 3 Nephi 17:21–24 where after Jesus was resurrected, He visited the Nephites. Because He loved the
children, He blessed each one of them. All these stories have something in common. He was serving all these people
and performing miracles by the only true and divine priesthood authority. I would invite this person, that has been
affected by abuse and bullying situations, to trust in the Lord and his faithful servants here on earth today and they
will protect him/her from any other dangers because of the sacred and divine authority the leaders in the church
have. I will end sharing my testimony that living the principles of the gospel and following the priesthood leaders has
always blessed my life and the lives of the people around me. At the same time, I have, every day, the sacred
responsibility of keeping myself pure and worthy of using my priesthood authority and power in order to bless the
