Explanation of Key Events and
Scriptures
Demonstrate your comprehension of fundamental truths of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and your ability to use the scriptures to teach them. Be sure to include specific scripture references from the assigned readings
Scenario: Imagine you have been asked by a family member or friend to share what you believe about the truths and events you studied this week. Share in your own words several
insights as though you are really trying to teach someone. Include at least three scripture references to support the truths you teach (you may reference them, but there is no need to quote them). Share your testimony as you would when teaching someone. Your response will be evaluated by the following criteria:
1.
200–300 words in length
(please include your word count at the bottom of the section).
2.
Include at least 3 scripture references
.
Response: This week I would really like to share with you the importance regarding some eternal truths we can find in the
scriptures. The first one is that we are loving children of our Heavenly Father and, even if not mentioned specifically
in the scriptures, we do strongly believe that we have a Heavenly Mother as well waiting to welcome us back home
with Our Heavenly Father. Here I could use the testimony from the article “Mother in heaven”. Because of this great
blessing that we naturally have, being children of God, we have a great divine potential that would give us the
opportunity to become like Our Heavenly Father. We can find few references in the scriptures like Psalm 82:6,
Romans 8:16–17. These promises in these scriptures are surely going to be fulfilled one day if we try to do our best
being obedient and faithful to the commandments of God. In many passages of the scriptures, we can read these
promises that if we do our best, we will inherit the Kingdom of God, and this promise includes as well all the rights
and power that come with it. I know that God will always keep His promises if we do our part. In order to try to do
our best we need to understand that God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost have prepared a Plan of
Happiness here on earth for us. In this plan the first important part is to understand that God, Jesus Christ and the
Holy Ghost are 3 separate beings but with the same loving and caring purpose toward each one of us. In D&C 130:22-
23 we read about this explanation. Joseph Smith in his First Vision declared that he saw 2 separate personages and
they were God the Father and Jesus Christ. They are the 2 beings of the Godhead with physical bodies while the
other member of the Godhead without a body of flesh and bones is the Holy Ghost that has the purpose to testify of
the Father and the Son to all of us the eternal truths we are called to learn here on earth. Word Count: 325 4. Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World
There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own:
abortion
abuse/bullying
addiction
depression
divorce
domestic violence
energy/environmental issues
violence
gambling
genocide
homosexuality
international terrorism
materialism
natural disasters
pornography
unemployment
poverty
racial strife/hatred
religious intolerance/persecution
threats to religious liberty
same-sex marriage
suicide
Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about
the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know.
Write a response in at least 300-450 words
and list your word count at the end of your response.
5.
The world problem/issue I chose this week is:
Divorce
Response: This week I decide to choose the topic of the Divorce and how I could relate the teachings and principles studied this
week with a person with such a particular problem in his/her life.
I would approach this person, if a good friend, giving him/her a hug, letting him/ her know that each one of us has
difficult trials and difficulties of many kinds in our lives and this is not because our Heavenly Father does not love us
or does not want to protect us from them, but because these difficulties are part of our earthly growth. I would
explain this friend that God is a really loving and caring Heavenly Father and he sent us here on earth to gain that
experience we would need to start our process to become like Him. Because He loves us and care for us, He sent His
Beloved Son Jesus Christ here on earth to atone for our sins and feel all the pain we are going through here on earth.
Because of Christ’s Atonement we have the opportunity to become clean from our earthly imperfections if we are
willing to follow His teachings making some covenants with God and Jesus Christ. In order to help this friend to make
these covenants, we need to help him/her to understand how to feel the presence of the Spirit in his/her life. This
great gift, having the presence of the Holy Ghost as constant companion, it will help this friend to make covenants
with them through saving ordinances here on earth. Once the Holy Ghost will touch his/her heart, it will be easier for
our Heavenly Father to have a daily relationship with this friend through prayer, and we can continue to share our
personal testimony that after a particular and sad experience like could be a divorce, Our Heavenly Father will surely

continue to help us to go through this difficult moment and find peace and joy still in this life and in the eternity
ahead of us. I think that sharing these important truths with this friend could help this person to gain a personal relationship with
God through prayer or to gain it back because the difficult time, maybe this person could have lost this precious
connection with our heavenly Father and Our Savior Jesus Christ. Word Count: 386
