Deuteronomy, Chapter 20: 10–11 10 When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it. 11 And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee. Explain the Passage: Then proclaim peace unto it. To my understanding, this passage “then proclaim peace unto it,” now the beginning of verse 10 says when thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, means at all costs try and make peace before war and fighting begins. When we make peace instead of war everyone wins, verse 11 says “And it shall be,” which means if the enemy agrees and is willing to make peace instead of fighting, and it shall be. Therefore, because of coming in peace instead of war and fighting the enemies and the people that are found therein shall be like branches on a tree, and they shall serve and follow thee. Identify a Clear and Concise Principle Displayed. Proclaim Peace. By proclaiming peace instead of war and fighting, shows great strength and the love of God in the heart, for God is love and a Man of peace and not war. For example, if I had a fight about to happen with one of my neighbors, I would do all that I could to make peace before war and fighting. Praying the entire time for God to fix this situation for me and my neighbor to be resolved peacefully, without anyone getting hurt or killed. A lot of times we act before thinking and sometimes things get out of hand, and trouble starts we argue and say things we do not intend to say, and words hurt. Most of the time a soft answer turns away anger and strife. Then Develop a Specific and Measurable Action you Can Implement in Your Life This Week to Demonstrate this Principle to Proclaim Peace Instead of War and Fighting. 1. I will practice five days a week how to prevent anger, war, fighting, and getting mad easily.
2. If I need to I will find an anger management class to take. 3. I will practice on a daily basis, not all people are the same, and learn how to deal with people on their level in a respectful way. 4. I will also practice how not to take things so seriously and defensively. 5. I will remind myself daily that God is a God of love and peace, not war and fighting. 6. I will practice not responding to toxic people in a negative way when I have been attacked in a wrong way.
