Scripture Citation Index
to fnd
three
modern prophetic teaching for each scripture you select, and fnd
three

Scripture passage
(Give reference and the doctrine as you understand it).
Three modern prophetic teaching
(Provide the prophet or apostle’s name, the quote

Scripture Passge # 1
: D&C: 64; 7, God forgive those who repent of their sins.
Modern Prophetic Teaching # 1
: Elder Craig A. Cardon says, “The Lord looks upon the light we
have received, the desires of our hearts, and our actions, and when we repent and seek His
forgiveness, He forgives.” (April 2013 General Conference, The Savior Wants to Forgive)
Modern Prophetic Teaching # 2
: President Russell M. Helson says, “Thus, when Jesus said
“repent,” He asked us to change-to change our minds, knowledge, and spirit-even our breath.”
(April 2007 General Conference, Repentance and Conversion)
Modern Prophetic Teaching # 3
: Elder David E. Sorensen says, “You don’t have to do this alone.
The path of repentance, though difficult, need not be traveled alone.” (April 2001 General
Conference, You Can’t Pet a Rattlesnake)
Additional # 1
: D&C: 19;20, it reminds me that we should be humble and confess our sins
before God so that we will not suffer any punishments He has promised if we don't repent.
Additional # 2
: Through the Topical Guide on forgiveness, I am reminded that Christ died for us
to give us new life. We can use His Atonement to apologize and confess our sins. If we confess,
we can always be forgiven again.
Additional # 3
: 1 John 5:17 reminds me that all unrighteousness is sin, and we need to repent
so we don’t take that sin with us when we die. Let it be washed away and be gone.

Scripture Passge # 2
: In D&C 68:4 it talks about the power that the Holy Ghost has and how we
can use it to connect to the Lord.
Modern Prophetic Teaching # 1
: Douglas D. Holmes says, “Those experiences come as the Holy
Ghost carries the word and love of God to our mind and heart.” (April 2020 General Conference,
Deep in Our Heart)
Modern Prophetic Teaching # 2
: Elder Dallin H. Oaks says, “The mission of the Holy Ghost is to
testify of the Father and the Son, to guide us into truth, and to show us all things we should do.
(October 2010 General Conference, Two Lines of Communication)
Modern Prophetic Teaching # 3
: Carol F. McConkie says, “A we prayerfully read and study
sacred prophetic word with faith in Christ, with real intent, the Holy Ghost will speak truth to
our minds and hearts. (October 2014 General Conference, Love according to the Words of the
Prophets)
Additional # 1
: Acts 4:31 reminds me that we can speak the word of God using the Holy Ghost.
We should always try to always have the Holy Ghost with us.
Additional # 2
: In the bible dictionary under Holy Ghost, it says for those who receive this gift,
the Holy Ghost acts as a cleansing agent to purify them and sanctify them from all sin. The Holy
Ghost will be our constant companion if we remain clear of sin.
Additional # 3
: Romans 1:16 reminds me that we will have the power of God with us if we are
not ashamed of the gospel and are willing to share it at any time in any place.
Step 03
Use
150-200 words
to write a paragraph about what you learned from studying the scripture
passage in this manner and how the different sources deepened or enhanced your
understanding of the doctrine you studied.
The Scripture Citation Index was very helpful for me because it helped me fnd conference talks
that matched the topic I was studying. By providing prophetic information and revelation, I
gained a deeper understanding of the scripture I was studying. I learned that we have prophets
who can receive direct revelation from God, and then they can tell us what we should do next.
When we choose to follow God, the Holy Ghost will dwell within our hearts and allow us to feel
the Spirit. By obtaining different sources for my two scriptures, I was able to understand the
importance of the Holy Ghost and the power of repentance. I had a chance to reflect on all that
our Savior has done for us. I am thankful for His Atonement, which will allow me to live with
him again someday.
Step 04
Reflect on the insights you gained this week. Write a
150-250 word paragraph
; describe what
the
single most powerful insight
was that came to you as you studies this week’s revelations
and what you hope to do with it.
Your paragraph should contain:
o
A description of what stood out to you.
o
What you hope to do better as a result of this new or deeper understanding you
have been given.
Here are some questions to consider in writing this paragraph:
o
Was there a particular “one=liner” in these revelations that captures your
greatest insight?
o
What was your biggest “aha” moment in studying these revelations?
o
What do you hope to do better as a result of what you have studied?
The most powerful insight was my Passage 2, which I received from D&C 68:4. It talks about the
power that the Holy Ghost has and how we can use it to connect with the Lord. Being in tune
with the spirit of God is a source of power because He is the one who brings truth to us. Carol F.
McConkie says, “A we prayerfully read and study the sacred prophetic word with faith in Christ,
with real intent, the Holy Ghost will speak truth to our minds and hearts (October 2014 General
Conference, Love according to the Words of the Prophets). I am fond of some of Sister Carol F.
McConkie's elementary outlines, one of them being prayerful. The holy Ghost will always be
sensitive to a prayerful person and I know that the more we are prayerful the more we are in
tune with the Spirit of God for revelation and inspiration. The second element is studying
scripture, both for the past prophets and for living prophets. The best way to show willingness
to follow the teachings of the spirit and the teachings of the prophets is by following the
teachings of the prophets.
