Name:
Adil Raf
Instructions
Follow the steps below to complete this activity. Save this document with your name in the fle
name. When you have completed this activity and answered all the questions, follow the
instructions in your course to submit the document for grading and feedback.
Step 01
Carefully read and review Section 11-12 and 14-19 of Doctrine and Covenants.
Step 02
Find, reference and briefly explain
seven
“cause and effect” (if...then) scripture passages from
these sections. (
350 – 400 words
)
For each passages found, including the following:
Reference
(Provide the reference where you found the “if…then” statement).
Passage
(Write out the “if…then” statement as you found it.
Explanation
(Give your brief explanation of what this principle means to you or why it is
important for us to live).
1.
D&C; 18:5 reads,
“Wherefore, if you shall build up my church upon the foundation of my
gospel and my work, the gates of hell shall not prevail against you.” The need for the
Church on this Earth in these latter days is highlighted by this important principle. It
serves as a guide and pillar of strength in our lives.
2.
D&C; 18:8 reads,
“And now, marvel not that I have called him unto mine own purpose,
which purpose, which purpose is known in me; wherefore, if he shall be diligent in
keeping my commandments he shall be blessed unto eternal life; and his name is
Joseph.” This principle is important because if we are diligent in following the Lord’s
commandments then we will be greatly blessed.
3.
D&C; 11:5 reads,
“Therefore, if you will ask of me you shall receive; if you will
knock
it
shall be opened unto you.” It's signifcant because it shows that God responds to our
prayers if we ask. Sometimes, we don’t get some blessings until we ask for them from
our Heavenly Father.
4.
D&C; 18: 25 reads,
“Wherefore, if they know not the name by which they are called,
they cannot have place in the kingdom of my Father.” This principle is important because
it reminds us that we are all children of God, which makes us stronger. We know that we
are the offspring of our Heavenly Father, and we are called by the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ. We are called Christians.
5.
D&C; 11: 17 reads,
“And then, behold, according to your desires, yea, even according to
your
faith
shall it be done unto you.” Our lives are enriched by our faith and desires. Our
righteous desires help us to receive great blessings. Faith is a principle of action, and we
get rewarded when we act in faith.
6.
D&C; 11: 21 reads,
“Seek not to
declare
my word, but frst seek to
obtain
my
word
, and
then shall your tongue be loosed; then, if you desire, you shall have my
Spirit
and my
word, yea, the power of God unto the
convincing
of men.” When it comes to preaching
the gospel, this verse is highly relevant. Learning is necessary before preaching. Reading
the scriptures and learning from living prophets and apostles is something we should
always strive for.
7.
D&C 17:8 reads,
“And if you do these last commandments of mine, which I have given
you, the gates of hell do not prevail against you; for my grace is sufficient for you, and
you shall be lifted up at the last day.” This is an important principle because it reminds us
to keep the promises we have made. We can be lifted in these latter days if we follow
God's commandments.
Step 03
Choose
three
of these cause and effect scriptures you discovered and listed.
Number them
and
briefly explain what they reveal to you about the nature of God. (
150-200 words
)
1.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, even as you desire of me so it shall be done unto you; and,
if you desire, you shall be the means of doing much good in this generation.” –
D&C
11:8
. It reveals that God is a loving father, He will give us what we need if we are willing
to ask Him.
2.
“
Say
nothing but
repentance
unto this generation. Keep my commandments, and assist
to bring forth my
work
,
according
to my commandments, and you shall be blessed” –
D&C 11:9
. This verse indicates that God upholds His promises and adheres to His own
commandments. Not only does He set the rules for us, but He also fulflls His promises. If
we follow His words and obey His commandments, He will keep His promises and bless
us.
3.
“And after that you have received this, if you
keep
not my commandments you cannot
be saved in the kingdom of my Father.” –
D&C 18:46
. God is a just God, if we keep His
commandments, He will bless us; however, if we do not keep His commandments or
follow Him, He will not give us the promised blessings.
Step 04
Personalized one of the “cause and effect” (if…then) scripture passages you selected and
personalize it by using your name where appropriate. (
50-75 words
)
(Example: If I, use your name, do…then I will…)
Doctrine and Covenants 14:5,7
5 Therefore, Adil if you will ask of me you shall receive; Adil, if you will
knock
it shall be opened
unto you.
7 And, Adil if you
keep
my commandments and
endure
to the end you shall have
eternal life
,
which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God.
Step 05
Reflect on the insights you gained this week. Write a
150-250 word paragraph
; describe what
the
single most powerful insight
was that came to you as you studies this week’s revelations
and what you hope to do with it.
Your paragraph should contain:
o
A description of what stood out to you.
o
What you hope to do better as a result of this new or deeper understanding you
have been given.
Here are some questions to consider in writing this paragraph:
o
Was there a particular “one=liner” in these revelations that captures your
greatest insight?
o
What was your biggest “aha” moment in studying these revelations?
o
What do you hope to do better as a result of what you have studied?
Because I sometimes struggle with daily prayers, Doctrine and Covenants 14:5 stood out to me
the most. This scripture serves as a reminder that the Heavenly Father is always paying
attention to my prayers. Knowing that the heavenly Father is all-knowing and all-seeing is
comforting, as if he is always listening, he will always respond. Waiting for His response is a
challenge because it will happen when He's ready, not when you want it to. This is when we can
trust in God and prayer. I have learned that we can be very specifc in our prayers, and we can
ask for patience and kindness. I've started doing this, and it's been a better way to relieve my
nerves than before. I am more confdent, and I am aware that all things are guided by His will. I
am practicing praying before every meal and before driving as reminders to simply pray, no
matter how long or short my prayer may be.
