Discipleship Project –
OBEDIENCE
Name:
Paul S Shenjere Mutiswa
Instructor name:
Brother Allen Matthews
Class: REL 250-G, Section:
REL 250 C
General Instructions
Save this template on your computer with a filename such as “Jon Doe Discipleship Project.”
Your writings and
reflections for the entire project should be included in this one document, but the document is
uploaded three times,
once for each deadline in your course (Plan, Mid-Semester Reflection, Final Reflection). Follow the calendar and
instructions in your course for submitting each assignment on time and in the appropriate assignment.
Project Plan (Due in Week 03)
Before writing your plan:
Ponder
what Elder Kim B. Clark (“
Eyes to See and Ears to Hear
,” October 2015) has taught at General
Conference:
“Whatever level of spirituality or faith or obedience we now have, it will not be sufficient for the work that lies ahead. We
need greater spiritual light and power. We need eyes to see more clearly the Savior working in our lives and ears to hear
His voice more deeply in our hearts. This marvelous blessing comes when we open our hearts and receive, truly receive,
the Lord Jesus Christ, His doctrine, and His Church into our lives.
We do not have to be perfect, but we need to be good
and getting better
.
We need to strive to live the plain and simple truths of the gospel.”
Elder Clark encourages those seeking to be good at getting better and to regularly ask ourselves two questions:
a) What am I doing that I should stop doing?
b) What am I not doing that I should start doing?" (CES Fireside, August 2015)

Now spend some time reflecting on gospel principles/doctrines taught about Christ and being a disciple of Christ. Next,
prayerfully identify
and share one area of discipleship you would like to make progress on. Remember, you will be
focused on improving yourself in this one area for ten weeks.
Write a 300- to 400-word project plan
answering the
following questions:
1.
Describe the area of discipleship
that you want to improve in your life and what caused you to desire to work on
this area in your life at this time. Share a doctrine or principle that inspires you to improve in this area and where it
is found in the scriptures or Church publications.
2.
Set a goal and specifically describe the steps
you will take to develop the attribute you have chosen and apply the
doctrine or principle to your life over the next 10 weeks.
3.
Identify any anticipated challenges
, and explain what you will do to overcome them.
4.
Explain how you will keep a personal record
or journal of your progress over the next 10 weeks.
One field that struggle in, is to just obey small promptings that I receive day in day out. All I want is to be obedient.
Doctrine and Covenants 58:24-29 helps us understand how obedience also helps us progress while on this earth and
help us to become more like our Heavenly Father. Obedience is said to be a celestial law, one that is irrevocably decreed
in heaven. When one is not obedient, he is not unified with God’s plans and such cannot live with God. One thing that I
will always do is get a notebook, to write all promptings that I get and follow them. The reason why I said I will get a
notebook is that whenever I get prompted to do something I ignore and say it’s just a thought, I then end up forgetting
that prompting other than to have obeyed and do as I was prompted to. I might lose my notebook but I will not lose my
notebook and phone at the same time. All of what I will write in my notebook I will write it in my phone notes that are
linked to my cloud. No matter where I am I can always have my notes within reach and I can work on my goal without
hinderance. Whenever I fulfil a goal, I make notes under it and how it went, and how I could have done better. I will
write also things that I will not do that I feel will take me backwards so that next time I don’t repeat the same mistakes
again. Obedience is a broad subject and I will add a little bit of keeping my study timetable at arm’s length. Sometimes I
say, “I will do it later”, and end up not doing my personal scripture study. This strategy of keeping a notebook will keep
me on my toes and up to speed.
In Weeks 04-07, carry out your plan to meet your discipleship goal.
Mid-Semester Reflection (Due in Week 08)
Please give an update on the progress of your goal to improve your discipleship.
