W04 Gospel Research and Insight Name: Omolola Christianah Coker Instructions Follow the steps below to complete this activity. Save this document with your name in the filename. When you have completed this activity and answered all the questions, follow the instructions in your course to submit the document for grading and feedback . Step 01 Carefully review and ponder section 93 and answer the following items in a 500-600 word paper in the space provided at the end of this document: 1. Read and ponder the quotes below and write a paragraph on how you would define "worship." 2. What are the two main purposes for this section found in 93:19? 3. Identify and describe 2 principles on "what you worship" (for each principle identified in this assignment, state the scripture, principle and what insight you gained). 4. Identify and describe 3 principles you learn concerning "how to worship" (for each principle identified in this assignment, state the scripture, principle and what insight you gained). 5. What is the relationship between the "what" and "how" of worship? 6. Find 2 other principles from the other sections used in this lesson that help you better understand true worship. 7. What is the relationship about the Lord's rebuke found in 93:40-53 and the doctrinal principles found in 93:1-39? Quotes "The worship of which one is capable depends upon his comprehension of the worthiness characterizing the object of his reverence. Man's capacity for worship is a measure of his comprehension of God" (James Talmage, The Articles of Faith, pp. 395-96). "The only measure of true greatness is how close a man can become like Jesus. That man is greatest who is most like Christ, and those who love Him most will be most like Him. How, then, does a man imitate God, follow His steps, and walk as He walked, which we are commanded to do? We must study the life of Christ, learn His commandments, and do them"(The Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, p. 327-328). "Shouldering the yoke of discipleship greatly enhances both our adoration and knowledge of Jesus, because then we experience, first-hand, through our parallel but smaller-scaled experiences, a small but instructive portion of what the Savior experienced. In this precious process, the more we do what Jesus did-allow our wills to be "swallowed up in the will of the
Father'- the more we will learn of Jesus (Mosiah 15:7). This emulation directly enhances our adoration of Jesus" (Neal A. Maxwell, Becoming A Disciple, Ensign, June 1996, p. 12). "If you wish to go where God is, you must be like God, or possess the principles which God possesses, for if we are not drawing towards God in principle, we are going from Him and drawing towards the devil...Search your hearts, and see if you are like God. I have searched mine, and feel to repent of all my sins" (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, 216). "Perfect worship is emulation. We honor those whom we imitate" (Bruce R. McConkie, Promised Messiah, p. 568). 1. Read and ponder the quotes below and write a paragraph on how you would define "worship." People have unique ways of expressing their worship, and I believe that as children of a loving Heavenly Father, it's important for us to recognize this diversity to avoid making unfair judgments in our own lives and towards others. To me, worship can be defined as our ongoing effort to emulate the qualities of Christ. I believe that as we actively strive to be more Christ-like, we are unlocking our true potential. When we make this effort, our minds are consistently focused on Christ, and we become more receptive to the influence of the Holy Spirit. Personally, I feel that when I engage in worship, I desire to have the Spirit accompanying me. The Holy Spirit serves as our ultimate guide in life, directing us in aligning our own will with God's divine plan. 2. What are the two main purposes for this section found in 93:19 ? Knowing how to worship and what to worship. 3. Identify and describe 2 principles on "what you worship" (for each principle identified in this assignment, state the scripture, principle, and what insight you gained). In D&C 93:20, I find my devotion in the teachings of Christ, specifically the commandments. Understanding these commandments can empower us to firmly grasp His timeless gospel principles and guide us along the narrow path leading to salvation. These teachings originate from Christ Himself, and by learning and practicing them, we invite blessings into our lives. In D&C 93:36, we are granted the illumination and truth of the gospel. When people remark that there is something distinctive about us, referring to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, they are alluding to this uniqueness. We are truly fortunate to distinguish ourselves from the world simply by our reverence for the gospel and the teachings of Christ. 4. Identify and describe 3 principles you learn concerning "how to worship" (for each principle identified in this assignment, state the scripture, principle, and what insight you gained). D&C 93:1 emphasizes the importance of turning to the Lord when we sin. The best course of action is to obey Him and follow His commandments. When we make mistakes, the most beneficial response is to approach the Lord, as He is always ready to
aid and unwavering love. It's common for people, including myself, to want to hide from the Lord when they sin, but we must remember that the Lord loves us and desires what is best for us. D&C 93:11 reminds us that Christ is alive, and the Spirit serves as our guide. Our worship can be grounded in the knowledge that Christ walked the Earth and continues to live. He will return. D&C 93:19 emphasizes the importance of understanding what and how to worship. Drawing near to the Father allows us to gain insight into what and whom to worship. When faced with trials, seeking answers through prayer is a valuable approach. D&C 93:26 highlights that the Spirit represents God's truth and is always available to lead and guide us. We don't need a specific reason to seek a spiritual prompting; the Spirit is with us consistently. D&C 93:42 encourages the teaching of children, as it brings joy and the Spirit into the home. Teaching our children is a profound way of worshiping. 5. What is the relationship between the "what" and "how" of worship? Knowing what the material and the “physical side” of it for instance is the teaching of the gospel, knowing how it the spiritual side of knowing how to get those answers. 6. Find 2 other principles from the other sections used in this lesson that help you better understand true worship. D&C 91:4-6 underscores the Spirit's presence for your benefit. It serves as a guide to help you understand what and how to worship, tailoring your worship experience to your current needs. D&C 95:2 emphasizes that the Lord is available to us when we err. To receive the Spirit for worship, it's essential to maintain worthiness. Consistent repentance enables us to gain insights into what and how to worship. 7. What is the relationship about the Lord's rebuke found in 93:40-53 and the doctrinal principles found in 93:1-39? The Lord wants to encourage us all the use the given principles and follow them to be blessed. The rebuke was because they were not following the commandments and being worthy of the spirit. Step 02 Reflect on the insights you gained this week. Write a 150-250 word paragraph ; describe what the single most powerful insight was that came to you as you studies this week’s revelations and what you hope to do with it. Your paragraph should contain: o A description of what stood out to you. o What you hope to do better as a result of this new or deeper understanding you have been given. Here are some questions to consider in writing this paragraph:

o Was there a particular “one-liner” in these revelations that captures your greatest insight? o What was your biggest “aha” moment in studying these revelations? o What do you hope to do better as a result of what you have studied? I found this week's lessons to be quite enriching. Although there were some challenging parts, I've realized the importance of centering my life around the Lord and the guidance of the Spirit. I firmly believe that by becoming more receptive to the Spirit, I can better fulfill my responsibilities in my calling and serve others effectively. It's essential for me to ensure that my worship is sincere and that I don't take for granted the blessings I've enjoyed throughout my life. I'm particularly eager to concentrate on maintaining the Spirit in my home on Sundays. After attending church and feeling the Spirit's presence, I sometimes find that I become less focused when I return home. I'm committed to making positive changes, such as avoiding shows that may diminish the Spirit's influence on Sundays and listening to uplifting music. These adjustments will, I believe, enable me to continue worshiping with the Spirit's guidance throughout the entire day.
