Life and Testimony of Elder Quentin L. Cook and Elder D. Todd Christofferson
Life:
Elder Quentin L. Cook, Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostle, was born on the 8
th
of September,
1940 in Logan, Utah. He came from a loving parent who loved the Savior. He was married to
Sister Mary Cook in the Logan Utah Temple on November 30, 1962. He was taught the
possibility of learning from others by his parent. He said that we should try to observe those
around us and apply their best in them to ourselves. That it is important to surround ourselves
with good people because they have so much to offer us if we are willing to learn from them. He
has mentored and nurtured different people from all walks of life. Elder Cook had a close
relationship with each of his children in spite of the demands of work and Church callings.
Elder Cook taught his children to set goals and evaluate how their actions and activities affected
reaching those goals. He also set goals as a family that were focused first on the gospel.
He is
always ready and willing to serve in any calling. He moved from one responsible position to
another, both in his career and in the Church.
He testifies that Jesus Christ is the Savior, that God is our Father in Heaven, that Joseph Smith is
the prophet of this dispensation, and that we have a prophet today. That knowledge is the center
of his life.
Testimony:
Elder Quentin L. Cook testifies of his spiritually inspiring occasion as he received an
overpowering witness of Jesus Christ and his restored gospel. He also declared that we are all
spirit children of a loving Father in Heaven who wants us to return to His presence. He has
provided a way through His son, Jesus Christ, our Savior, and Redeemer, for us to return to Him.
Elder D. Todd Christofferson
Life:
Elder D. Todd Christofferson, Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, was born on January 24,
1945, in American Fork, Utah. He lived with his parent who taught him through their examples
and showed him how to live according to the pattern of the gospel. He enjoyed friendships and
associations with people from a variety of cultural and religious backgrounds, something that
would continue throughout his life.
He served his mission in the Argentina North Mission.
During his mission, Elder Christofferson
was remarkable for been an exceptionally outstanding missionary whose devotion and capacities
were evidence that he would have a life of unusual significance. President Richard G. Scott notes
that this young elder was particularly disciplined, obedient, and hardworking, and that he
demonstrated “a gentleness of spirit that blessed each of his companions and endeared him to his
investigators and converts.
He was married to Kathy
Christofferson in the Salt Lake Temple on May 28, 1968, and was
blessed with five children and have eight grandchildren.
He had a distinguished law career and
also fulfilled an active-duty requirement with the U.S. Army, followed by eight years in the
inactive reserves. He completed his military commitment as a reserve captain.
On April 3, 1993, He was sustained as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy. On August
15, 1998, Elder Christofferson was called as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy, where
he served until his call to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He testifies that “I am a great
believer in the power of prayer,” he says. “We can always turn to prayer. Sometimes it’s all we
have left, but it’s always sufficient for the need.”
Testimony:
Elder D. Todd Christofferson testifies that the Father and the Son had in fact appeared to Joseph
Smith here, and that his witness and the witness of all the holy scriptures concerning Jesus Christ
are true.
Prophet
Joseph Smith later declared, this is the testimony last of all which we give of Him, that
He lives. For we saw Him even on the right hand of God and we heard the voice bearing record
that He is the only begotten of the Father. Finally, he testifies that Jesus of Nazareth, born 2,000
years ago, is the divine Son of God. He was crucified, died, and rose again the third day and
ascended into heaven to sit down on the right hand of the Father. He is full of grace, mercy, and
truth, and as many as will believe in him, repent and be baptized in his name, and endure in faith
to the end will enjoy peace in this life and salvation in His heavenly kingdom.
