4035 Contrast Therapy Approach Questions 1. Explain how each of the videos are similar. Each clinician is correctly using a contrast therapy approach which focuses on words that differ by only a single phoneme. Each word pair is contrasting in that they differ in meaning. 2. Explain the difference between the use of minimal, maximal pairs, and multiple oppositions within each video? In the two minimal pairs videos, I noticed the second video had the clinician using a lot more cueing and used contrast error to correct production, whereas the first video had the clinician only intermittently correcting errors. In the maximal pairs videos, video 2 had a phase where the client would spontaneously produce a word pair for the clinician. There was only one multiple opposition video but the clinician used minimal pairs for all errors simultaneously, which differs from the minimal and maximal pairs target selections as they only target two words at a time. 3. Summarize your own thoughts and feelings about the videos. Overall, I think I enjoyed seeing the maximal contrast target selections most as it showed almost a ‘midway’ point in the clients therapy where targets are becoming more complex for the client and they are able to spontaneously produce word pairs more. I do enjoy the contrast approach more than the cycle approach because of the way it moves linearly, but it was interesting seeing a new approach in action through these videos.
