MCN Questions Speech Sound Disorder – Jackson 1. What was the purpose of this treatment session? What goals/objectives do you think were being targeted? Goals included improving intelligibility, irregular past tense, /r/ and /l/ 2. Describe how the therapy activities matched the goals of the session and briefly explain how they were developmentally appropriate. 3. What was the purpose of the conversational sample at the beginning of the therapy session? I believe it was to assess Jackson’s intelligibility, descriptive language, and his ability to use personal narrative to explain his plans. She will use it as a sort of reference point for the session and help the clinician determine what activities she wanted to do with the client. 4. Briefly describe the language testing completed in the session. What was being assessed? 5. What was the purpose of the language assessment? 6. How does the clinician keep Jackson motivated during the therapy session? Briefly describe 2 techniques that were used? 7. What technique did the clinician use to help improve Jackson’s intelligibility of the targeted word “they’re, there, their” – did you notice a change? (Explain) 8. What word(s) does Jackson say he has difficulty with? 9. Who is the other person the clinician was talking to in the session? Do you think this added/detracted from the session (Explain). The clinician is speaking to the client’s father. I believe it added some encouragement to Jackson and encouraged him to elaborate more when speaking to the clinician. 10. List the toy that was used for Jackson’s break. Explain why it is important for him to have play incorporated into his therapy.
The toy was a purple ball. Jackson really enjoyed playing with the ball previously, and its important to incorporate play in a clinician directed session when you are dealing with school-age children to keep them engaged and motivated to complete the session while doing their best.
