matthew/bob 1. This was an intervention session. Did you think this was a child-centered, clinician-directed, or hybrid intervention approach and why? This session was child-centered in that it used play therapy to create a comfortable environment for the child, with goals being targeted through toys and other symbols. 2. The goals were: Increase reciprocity. What were 2 language concepts that you saw Bob bombard during language stimulation activities? Self talk: Bob narrated a lot of what he was doing when playing; By narrating his actions with words, it encouraged Matthew to narrate his actions too Description: Bob would describe objects to Matthew, helping expand vocabulary Language stimulation. What are 2 indirect language stimulation strategies Bob used during the language stimulation activities? Parallel talk: Bob narrated what Matthew was doing to encourage speaking from Matthew Expansion: Bob would add on to what Matthew would say to help him better verbalize with combining words 3. What were 2 behavior management techniques Bob used to help keep Matthew on task? Bob brought in another clinician (Laura) to help with play and encourage Matthew to stay engaged in conversation Bob used positive reinforcement to encourage Matthew and do what Matthew wanted (making the session child-centered) 1. Any observations you made on the child and/or clinician. The child is on the high functioning end of ASD in that he is able to verbally explain himself and follow directions with minimal clinician input 2. Two strategies the clinician uses to keep Christian engaged. Bob addresses everything Christian says - He will continue conversation with him and play actively with Christian Positive reinforcement - Maintains a playful and positive energy and constantly tells the client how well he’s doing when tasks are more clinician directed 3. What were at least two of the skills that Bob was trying to work on with Christian? What was an example of how he worked on these skills? Ability to listen to directions - On the computer, Bob tells Christian to identify people (“Click on the person who..”), make roads that go left and right, number off characters, etc Language Stimulation - Bob visually showed Christian objects and had him spell and speak the words back to him, as well as relate the objects to each other using directional language (on top, next to, etc)
