Define: Experimental Research method its advantages and disadvantages According to page 36, experimental Research is research done by conducting an experiment which is what is done to clarify whether there is a cause-and-effect relationship between variables. The advantages of experimental research methods, found on page 44, are clear cause- and-effect relationships can be identified, powerful controlled observations can be staged, and no
need to wait for a natural event. The disadvantages of experimental research method, found on page 44, are they may be somewhat artificial and some natural behavior not easily studied in the laboratory (field experiments may address these objections. b. Define: Correlational Research method its advantages and disadvantages (pages 41-42) According to page 41, correlational research refers to any study that quantifies the degree to which two (or more) variables are associated. You are not manipulating any variables or comparing groups of participants but instead simply measuring variables to be associated or correlated with one another. The advantages of correlational research methods, found on page 44, are demonstrates the existence of relationships, allows prediction, and can be used in a lab, clinic, or natural setting. The disadvantages of correlational research methods, found on page 44, are little or no control is possible, cause-and-effect relationships cannot be confirmed, and relationships may be coincidental. c. Define: Quasi-experimental Research method its advantages and disadvantages (page 41) According to page 41, quasi-experimental research/study method is a descriptive study in which researchers wish to compare groups of people but cannot randomly assign them to groups, which is a designing feature of a true experiment. The advantage of quasi-experimental research methods, found on page 44, is it allows for comparison of groups based on naturally occurring variables that are of interest to psychologists but that cannot be manipulated (eg. Sex, exposure to trauma, adoption). The disadvantages of quasi-experimental research methods, found on page 44, are little or no control is possible and cause-and-effect relationships cannot be confirmed. d. Define: Clinical Method Research its advantages and disadvantages ( look to define on pages 36-44) The advantages of clinical method research, found on page 44, is it allows investigation of rare or unusual problems or events. The disadvantages of clinical method research, found on page 44, are little or no control is possible, does not provide a control group for comparison, subjective interpretation is often necessary, and a single case may be misleading or unrepresentative. e.
