Hello everyone! I am Monique Hanson-Randolph, and I am 24 years old. I’m married and have a son. I currently serve as a Sergeant in the Army. I’m pursing my bachelor’s degree in psychology and when I graduate I will further my education by getting my master’s degree in social work. I hope everyone has an amazing term and learn some useful information! Compare the 1960 disease model by Jellinek to one of the seven models discussed in your book. The seven models you can choose from: 1. Moral model 2. Psychological model 3. Family model 4. Disease model 5. Biological model 6. Sociocultural model 7. Multi-causal model Include the following in your discussion: Provide a statement of your personal definition of addiction (This is just how you see addiction and does not have to have any models of addiction to support it.). My personal definition of addiction is when a person abuses or overly uses or does something and lacks control. A person who is addicted to something tends to relapse and will do whatever even if it means hurting someone else in the process to fulfill their needs. Addiction tears families apart and often times even ruins a person’s life. Addiction can suck the life out of someone and causes people to lose everything. Lastly, addiction can kill in my experience I had an aunt who was addicted to crack and didn’t know her limit and overdosed which led to her death. Addiction hurts individuals and the people around them as well.
Include a brief overview of the 1960 disease model by Jellinek and the model you selected. The 1960 disease model by Jellinek was originally made for alcoholism but is currently being used with most addictions today. This model can be split up into three phases: the crucial, chronic, and rehabilation phase. The model that I have selected is the Multi-causal Model. This model explains that addiction isn’t caused by one single factor and that the motivation for using drugs vary from person to person. Compare and contrast the 1960 disease model by Jellinek and the model you selected for their definition of addiction. The 1960 disease model by Jellinek and the Multi-casual Model are similar because they both are about understanding the person and their addiction in a more in-depth way and recovery. They differ because Jellinek allows the individual who is facing addiction to physically see where they are at in life and show them where they could potentially be if they were to stop their cycle of addiction. In my opinion both models could be extremely beneficial for a person who suffers from addiction. Respond to two of your peers' definitions. How does your peer's definition differ from your own? How is it similar?
