2 The main purpose of this research is to deeply study the multifaceted effects of childhood trauma on individuals. Through an in-depth examination of various aspects, this study aims to reveal the profound and lasting effects that childhood traumatic experiences can have on people throughout their lives. This research project raises some thought-provoking questions that are intricately related to this topic of childhood trauma. These questions aim to unravel the complex web of consequences and mechanisms of childhood trauma, ultimately contributing to a deeper understanding of the subject. Some of these questions include: Q1. How does childhood trauma impact the long-term mental health of individuals? Q2. What are the social and emotional consequences of childhood trauma on. interpersonal relationships in adulthood? Q3. To what extent does the type and severity of childhood trauma influence coping mechanisms and resilience in adulthood? Several key variables pique my research interest because they have the potential to unlock deep insights into the complex dynamics and far-reaching consequences of childhood trauma. Childhood traumas: refers to adverse experiences or events that occur during a person's formative years (up to age 18), including physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, neglect, or exposure to violence (Brown, 2018). Long-term mental health encompasses psychological well- being and stability across the lifespan, including measures of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other related mental health conditions (Wilson, 2019). Social and emotional consequences: refer to the impact of childhood trauma on an individual's ability to form and maintain relationships, as well as emotional regulation, attachment style, and social functioning (National Institute of Mental Health, 2022). Coping Mechanisms and Resilience in
3 Adulthood: include the strategies and resources individuals use to manage the emotional and psychological consequences of childhood trauma and their ability to adapt and recover from adversity (Wilson, 2019). The type and severity of childhood trauma is hypothesized to have a significant and lasting effect on long-term mental health, leading to increased levels of anxiety, depression and PTSD in individuals who have experienced more severe and varied forms of trauma. . In addition, the social and emotional consequences of childhood trauma are expected to negatively affect interpersonal relationships in adulthood, with traumatized individuals having lower trust, greater conflict, and difficulties with emotional regulation. However, it has also been hypothesized that coping mechanisms and resilience in adulthood can act as buffers, potentially mitigating some of the negative effects of childhood trauma on mental health and relationships.
