1. Describe the ways in which your personality traits have influenced the development of your social change identity. When I think of the ways in which my personality traits have influenced my development in my social change identity, I think of my emotional intelligence traits and the big five personality traits. My resilience has taught me how to deal with social change and how to deal with loss, discrimination and other I believe personal identities of myself that have influenced the development of my social change identity include my life as female who is race as a multi-racial and my sexual orientation as a lesbian, age and more. Those have all influenced the development of my social change identity. Groups that I identify a part of in and participate in also influence my identity because behaviors of groups in which people participate in normally display similar behavior. Having altruism and a sense of genuine behavior that coincides with my opinions also will help in identifying causes that I deserve recognition. Understanding others is also a helpful personality trait to have in social change identity because other individual’s values and belief may be different but that does not take away from the validity of what issue they want to address. Ultimately, our personal identification of ourselves such as our sexual orientation, ethnicity, and other similar identities have a huge impact on our understanding of social change identity. 2. Describe the ways in which your lived experiences have influenced the development of your social change identity. My lived experiences have greatly contributed to the development of my social change identity since a young age. I have experienced a great bit in my life living in a home with a Caucasian mother and Moroccan father and lived with mostly necessities as my family struggled financially as a lower-class family. Also, experiencing alcohol addiction and abuse
in my family has contributed to the way I grew up and learned a lot of negative things in my early age that has contributed to change I would like to see in society and families. Also, at a young age of 14, I came out as lesbian to my family and eventually was open about it to others, I faced both support but also discrimination and bullying grow up, had an effect on me personally and my views and beliefs. Although, I didn’t have the best upbringing, my mother was a strong-willed and hardworking woman who always fought through great challenges and now are in a more stable life now that we’re older. I would say I took some traits from her, and my experiences have influenced where my own beliefs and values stand. I can give guidance to those that have faced similar experiences as mine because I have built resilience and learned healthy coping strategies that can help others have a healthy identity of life and society and that there is hope for change if opinions or opportunities are given. I have since my childhood served in the military, have had rented homes of my own, gotten married and divorced as lesbian woman and now in a healthy relationship, and currently am attending college. I’m saying this because although I experienced obstacles in life, I continue to fight for my own happiness and those of others that do not receive it because of experiences they have no control of in some instances. These experiences have made me understanding, empathetic, and have given me a strong voice to help others who experience stigma and discrimination. 3. Describe the ways in which your social influences have influenced the development of your social change identity. The social influences that have influenced and contributed to my self-identity and transformation are my family, friends, and other people who I have met through my life. Social influences include the groups that an individual identifies to be a part of their beliefs,

values, and attitudes. The groups that I have mostly identified a part of are those of the military and LGBTQ+ community. Because of this, I would say that I am very open-minded and accepting of others. The military taught me diversity which I loved being part of a community who all fight for a similar cause but come from all part of the United States and met many individuals who had moved from other countries to serve for our country. Along with LGBTQ+ community, I have respect for other individual’s identification of themselves, and would consider myself an all-around non-judgmental person. By consistently being surrounded by groups of diverse and differently viewed individuals, I have learned to be empathetic of other experiences and views on controversial topics without disregarding their own beliefs and offering a sense of understanding in my own ideas on topics. 4. Describe the ways in which your willingness to be psychologically vulnerable has influenced the development of your social change identity. My willingness to be psychologically vulnerable has influenced the development of my social change identity and has influenced my self-identity throughout the years and currently. I believe this is due to our ever-changing world and my own experiences I continue to endure through life. I believe that psychology, I am resilient, as I am always fighting to work on my own personal mental insecurities such as my own anxiety, anger and depression that have stemmed from both genetics and lived experiences. Due to the environment, I grew up in and experiences I had growing up, I was angry at the world and didn’t understand why society was the way it was. Now as an adult who has lived and learned things, I understand some things are out my control and others are in my control which I have learned myself and through therapy. I believe these have developed a strong sense of social change. I know many others, more who don’t want to admit, struggle with these same issues and I’m glad society is
changing in a more accepting one that believes mental health is an important subject, for men, women, and many other personal identifications. It is not easy to be vulnerable with others, especially individuals that either don’t accept you or understand you but it is one of those things that must be done to ensure change in society and our world. Teaching others that it is okay to be open with your feelings and mental heath has broken a mold that can change generations to come and that is why I believe the younger generations are going to make great change as voices have become louder in the subject of change and acceptance of others. 5. Describe the ways in which resilience, growth mindset, and emotional intelligence have each supported the personal growth that has contributed to the development of your social change identity. I believe that my resilience, growth mindset, and emotional intelligence have all at combined supported my personal growth that contributed to the development of my social change identity. My resilience has taught me how to persevere through countless different situations and challenges that I’ve faced. It has taught me to keep fighting and to try to exhaust all my options and skills before giving up. In the same sense, my growth mindset has taught me to maintain the beliefs and values that I find to be most genuine in my actions and challenge ones that I may have learned through my environment. I’ve taken the experiences I’ve had and looked through them in different perspectives besides my own in order to gain a broader understanding of it. Lastly, being emotionally intelligent or continuing to improve my emotional intelligence because I know I’m not perfect has allowed me to connect with others and network with those alike or maybe with different viewpoints. I believe that being
emotionally intelligent has greatly contributed to skills that would be beneficial in trying to create social change.
