Describe how you would apply a specific theory of social psychology to advance your advocacy agenda. What I would apply is the social attribution theory in order to advance my advocacy agenda. The reasoning is because it can explain why we are advocating something and what caused it in the first place. Attribution is the process of inferring the causes of events or behaviors. (Cherry, 2023) Organizations use this type of theory to understand or improve effectiveness of interventions, resources, and to improve activities that are most influential in achieving desired outcomes and support. Describe how you would apply a specific theory of cognitive psychology to advance your advocacy agenda. To make advancement to my advocacy agenda, I would apply schemas of cognitive psychology. Schemas focus on how our minds create and interpret information by our past experiences and shape the way we make future predictions. This is another way that we can improve social change by inferring what approaches work and don’t for change. Another way that this relates to social change is how ideas for change get brought up in the first place. If you are someone who has experienced a certain trauma like domestic abuse, this experience causes us to influence actions like advocating for other individuals like themselves. Describe a psychological concept that could be used to heighten awareness of the need for social change. The psychological concept that can be used to heighten awareness for social change would be prosocial behavior and altruism. Prosocial behavior is defined as voluntary
behavior intended to benefit another. (Eisenburg et al, 2006) It is one of the best qualities about a human, along with altruism and someone is given the opportunity to help others and knows how greatly it would benefit them, this could be used to move forward through social change. Altruism would be a trait of an individual who has unselfish concern for another such as an elderly men and women. Describe how assessment tools can be used to measure social change. Assessments tools can be used to provide evidence-based approaches of social change and provide structure to play an unbiased role in whether the change is helpful. The assessment tools that can measure social change are tools that are used in various research. Some of these tools include polls, written or media surveys, and interviews. For example, polls and surveys are a good tool to use to gain whether the social change is benefiting others and interviews can be used to gain a more personal understanding and whether they react positively or negatively to this. The results from these can help decide whether this social change is worth fighting for and find better ideas or approaches to what they can do. Describe critical first steps in developing an intervention for effecting social change in the workplace. The first steps that are critical in developing an intervention for effecting social change in the workplace would be to voice and discuss the problem. Then individuals must be able to recognize this an issue that more than one employee is experiencing and use assessment tools such as yearly surveys that are anonymous to protect others privacy. If there is an issue or need for social change, whomever is in charge of these this type of
