Elaine Nassar PSY-491: Psychology and Social Change 1-3 Module One Video Reflection October 29 th , 2023
After reviewing the Module One Video, I believe the theory of personal change that is most applicable to Jodi Lamothe’s development is self-concordance theory. Jodi spoke about her childhood and her difficulties growing up due to her personal or social identities. For example, she spoke about growing up in a poor family and the stereotypes that come along with being African American. Although Jodi Lamothe went through a lot of in her life, those factors did not stop her from not being herself and being authentic with her identity and embracing it. She encouraged others to be themselves and use it as a way to understand others so that they may produce positive change. I believe that authenticity is critical to a leader’s ability to affect positive social change because it can promote engagement from individuals with different beliefs, values, and identities. It can also improve others’ loyalty and performance within the social change agency. I personally believe that a person who is more authentic and accepting of their own true self are more reliable and understanding the others. Society and individuals want a leader who is genuine in what they do and is honest about who they are.
