CHRONIC TRAUMATIC ENCEPHALOPATHY 2 A large percentage of professional sportsmen have been found to have chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain illness brought on by frequent head injuries Repeated head trauma leads to CTE, a degenerative illness that affects the brain. The accumulation of a protein called tau in the brain is a defining feature of the condition. Memory loss, confusion, depression, and dementia are all signs of CTE. Research on CTE has shown that it is not just professional athletes who are at risk of developing the disease. CTE has also been found in individuals who have suffered repeated head injuries, such as military veterans and victims of domestic abuse. The research has also shown that CTE is not always immediately apparent, as symptoms may not appear until years or even decades after the initial head injury. The effects of CTE can be devastating. The disease can lead to depression, anxiety, and a host of other psychiatric disorders. CTE can also lead to memory loss, which can be severe enough to interfere with daily activities. Additionally, CTE can cause physical symptoms such as difficulty walking, loss of balance, and tremors. The research on CTE has led to increased awareness of the dangers of repetitive head injuries and has led to changes in the way sports are played. Many sports organizations have implemented stricter rules to protect athletes from head injuries, such as rules against leading with the head in football and other contact sports. In conclusion, CTE is a degenerative brain illness that has been linked to repeated head trauma in a significant proportion of professional athletes. The disease is characterized by the
