1. The text book that I chose is Applying Behavior Analysis Across the Autism Spectrum: A Field Guide for New Practitioners Second Edition. This is a paperback book that has 330 pages. The publisher is Sloan Educational Publishing; second edition and the date of publication is January 6, 2012 the ISBN number is: 978-1597380362. 2. I think the estimate of pictures or graphics (because many of the pictures are just little cartoons) by gender are 50/50 even with with the one picture in the whole book which is represented on the cover there are 2 boys and 2 girls holding hands and running in the classroom. I do however think that the percentage of ethnicity being represented is 3 white children from what I see, and that would be of 75 % and one Hispanic child. 3. The content in the book is focused on children with autism and I think that it doesn’t explicitly focus on one particular gender or ethnicity. I believe it is equally divided with no focus on one particular gender or ethnicity. 4. In the text in terms of content, voice, gender and ethnicity representations I think that it is fairly divided with no focus on one particular gender or ethnicity.
According to Hirsch’s Core Knowledge, “We must make it possible for all children to achieve at higher levels, and thereby reduce the tragic achievement gap between social groups.” I think in this particular book, it is teaching the best way to support children with Autism and being able to teach them in more inclusive environments. This textbook would be appropriate for anyone that is wanting to get into the field of behavioral therapy or special education. This book is appropriate for the use of training programs that are geared towards preparing someone to work with children with autism. Each unit in the book has different narratives about future teachers that will be working in the field and then there are different well-structured materials to guide and support children. This book is for someone that is just getting started in the field as it has the ABA techniques and certain steps to understand and go forth implementing procedures. It could be useful for paraprofessionals that are in the classroom.
