Hi Ruby, That's an interesting question! I think I would only consider sending my client an assessment to complete at home as a last resort. However, I would consider the pros and cons. Having the client complete the assessment online or at home is very convenient and can save a lot of travel time for the client. Additionally, the client may feel more comfortable answering certain questions in the privacy of their home where they are alone. Research also suggests that clients are less likely to provide socially desirable responses when completing assessments alone at home, which leads to more accurate and honest results (Buchanan, 2003). Despite these benefits, there is lack of supervision which means there is nobody to answer the client's questions or concerns. Additionally, the client may get easily distracted at home or may not complete the entire assessment in one seating. Lastly, I think confidentiality and privacy is at risk when a client completes assessments at home, especially if the assessment contains sensitive information. If you decide to let the client complete the assessment online or at home, what could you do to ensure the test validity remains high? References Buchanan, T. (2003).
